Passwording Bootable USB Media?

I know this is possible, but i do not know how, but basicly i have some software i have been working on and modifying, not going into details, and plan on taking it to the work place with me, but incase i lose this USB at any point, i do not want a user to be able to access my project, atleast without the correct password, therefore i was wondering how you input a password to bootable usb media?

Will this request the password when booting from the USB?

I have never seen a bootable USB encrypted. The computer has to first boot to load the system to even see the encryption so it can decrypt it. If you have the device it needs to boot from encrypted, it can't read the encrypted files to boot from to load anything to decrypt those files. Making a neat circle of not booting.
