I currenly have a PATA raid.
I plan to upgrade to an athlon64 motherboard.
I notice that almost all of them have raid, but they only have SATA raid.

I've seen some devices that allow me to convert a IDE drive to SATA. can I juse do this and use SATA raid?
or should I just try to find a PATA raid motherboard.

nVidia's latest chipset allows you to mix PATA and SATA devices within the same RAID array, all on the chipsets controllers. The MSI K8N Neo Platinum, for example, should therefor allow you to do PATA RAID. You'll want to look into it more to double-check.

Yes, true, the CHIPSET allows for the mix, but I think most motherboards don't take advantage of that and only offer SATA raid.
Actually, I only found one board, a Gigabyte board.
I'd consider getting that one, but I'm not too sure after reading that article from this site about the memory compatibility problems.

I'm thinking that maybe if I can spend like $20-$30 on adapters for my two IDE drives, then I can juse use a board with SATA raid. I just wanna make sure this doesnt have a large affect on performance.

What memory problems? As I recall, the K8N Neo was 2nd or 3rd best for compatibility with memory. I looked again, it didn't boot with 3 crappy brands. As long as you stick with a good brand, it looks like it should be fine.

Yes, the MSI one, but it doesnt seem to support Parallel Raid
just SATA

the only one I found that does support it is the Gigabyte one with like the lowest compatibility rating.

This is why I'm wondering if I should just get adapters for my IDE drives so I can use the SATA raid
I just don't know what affect if any this has on performance
