PATA (Slave and master)

There is something confusing me forever regarding PATA slave and master, let's say I want to connect one HDD to a PATA controller in the motherboard and one and HDD to another PATA controller in the motherboard, do I have to jimper the HDDs even though they are in different controllers ?

What is a dule skave and dule master and how they are different from slave and master?

On different controllers it doesn't matter Master or Slave, only when you connect to one cable, on one controller. (that's also answer for your second question).

It's what I expected its clear now, regarding sata HDD some of them have jumper to reduce the speed to 1.5 Gb or 3.0 Gb for compatibility reasons. When I insatlled a 3Gb using sata 1 cable to a sata 1 slot in the motherboard it did work without jumparing, I find this little strange since I should be using the jumper for HDD to reduce the speed to 1.5Gb so my question why did it work without the jumper what is the purpose of the jumper then? It seems useless...

That jumper for reducing speed is for very old SATA 1 controllers, last 10 or so years they are all compatible with any speed.
