[strike]Graphics card problems[/strike]

Sorry, I posted this from my phone last night & ended up with the heading in the detail & vice versa.

I have just bought a used XFX 7870 from eBay because my aging 4890 wouldn't run Fallout 4. After waiting 3 days for a 6pin to 8pin adapter to arrive, I finally got it installed last night. I downloaded new drivers (Crimson 15.2 I think), uninstalled the previous ones, installed the new ones and immediately got a strange corruption of my desktop. It is hard to explain but there are patches on the screen which are displaying old data, i.e. data that was previously on the screen before I closed that particular window. it is static until I move the mouse and then it flickers & changes but normally in the same places. I uninstalled the drivers, used the AMD driver clean utility and found a hotfix driver (16.1 I think). Strangely, with no drivers installed, the problem doesn't occur but nothing could recognise the card. I installed the newer drivers, and the problem started again, exactly the same.

If it happened ALL the time, I would think that it might be a connection issue but since it only happens with drivers installed, could the card be faulty & only exhibiting this behavior when under some sort of load?

I don't want to have to send the card back to the seller if its just a driver issue but I've never seen anything like this before. If I can I will upload a video.

Thanks for your interest already

Are you asking about a 2xMOLEX to 6-pin PCIe adapter?

If so, you can probably find one locally for $10 or less. Phone around to computer stores.

(Make sure your power supply can handle it. If you want help, tell us your PSU, CPU and whether CPU is overclocked).

Sorry, that was just me getting my input boxes muddled up and putting the detail in the header box. Doh!:pfff:

I've actually tracked down the problem with the screen flickering, It doesn't happen in demanding games or during benchmarks or even when viewing a YouTube video but as soon as the card goes in to some sort of power save mode and the Clock drops to 300Mhz, it just corrupts the screen. I'd appreciate any advice on forcing the card to keep it's clocks up!
