running 2gb of patriot extreme ddr2 800 on this board with an e6750 OC'd to 3.2, 430psu, 8800gts 320mb on vista home premium

i built the rig last week and so far has been more or less stable with the occasional bsod and crash that i was attributing to new build/vista/drivers

but i ran mem test and the errors are off the charts

the mem out of the box was 5-5-5-15 but i lowered it to 4-4-4-12 and am stable on either option 1 or 2

can the mem be causing the crashes and hiccups?
is it bunk? or maybe the bios: i'm running bios F4i

any help would be appreciated

thanks in advance

ps: the screen seems to subtly flicker too: nvidia 163.67 beta drivers?

Yes, the memory problems could be causing your crashes. The 5-5-5-15 is likely all it can handle at the 1.8V standard DDR2 memory voltage. To run faster timings, you will likely have to up the memory voltage. See this post for more info: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/200599-30-memory-nooob-aarrggghh-timings#t1249881
If you have ANY memory errors, something is wrong with the system. Try using memtest86+ if that wasn't what you were using -- it's a very solid program.

In addition, I strongly suspect that your PS is not sufficient for your power-hungry 8800gts board; that may also be contributing to your memory problems.

thanks for the reply

yeah, i used memtest and that's where i found the errors

i'll try to up the voltage and see what happens

if not, i hope it's the underwhelming psu and not two faulty sticks that i'll have to rma to newegg

thanks again

I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3P with 2 kits of Patriot Extreme 2x1GB DDR2 800 (PC2-6400) Low Latency memory.

At stock voltage (Normal in the BIOS = 1.8v) it automatically detected the timings of 5-5-5-16. When I ran MemText overnight, I had no issues.

When I attempted to manually configure the timings to 4-4-4-12 and DDR2 voltage to +0.4 (2.2v patriot specifies), I received about 157 errors in test 4, 6 and 7 on Memtest with every pass. So I set it back to the 5-5-5-15 timings and stock voltage.

Patriot Support suggested that I try each stick individually to see if I had a bad stick. I did it in pairs - 1st kit in slot 1 & 3 at 4-4-4-12 timings and 2.2v - no errors in MemTest in 1 pass.

2nd kit in slots 1 & 3 at 4-4-4-12 timings and 2.2v and no errors in MemTest in 1 pass.

2nd kits in slots 2 & 4 at 4-4-4-12 timings and 2.2v and no errors.

All four sticks in slots 1-4 at 4-4-4-12 timings and 2.2v and 4 errors in test 6 with evey pass (left on overnight). No idea why less errors than originally except I reseated the RAM and the ambient temps outside were much cooler than the first try.

I lowered the voltage to 2.05 (+0.25) and left the timings at 4-4-4-12 and received no errors in Memtest with 2 overnight tests.

Just thought I woudl share my experiences and see if it could help you troubleshoot your problems.
