Hey guys, I recently got a new set of 2x8 ddr4 Patriot viper steel series 4000mhz ram.

I'm running a z370P D3 and a i5-8600k overclocked comfortably to 5.0GHZ

Unfortunately the xmp profiles my ram presents cause my computer to fail to start.

Strangely the xmp 4000mhz is more stable and just reboots asking me to fix my bios settings.
The lower 3810 or so xmp absolutely bombs the system and I have to do a cmos reset.

Both my i5-8600k and Z370P-D3 claim to support this ram.

My attempts to manually overclock the ram result in the system failing to boot, but not requiring a cmos reset.

Any idea what's up here?

Mind sharing your full specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Latest BISO update for your motherboard? Mind also sharing how you manually went about overclocking the ram?

CPU: i5-8600k
Motherboard: Z370P D3
Ram: 2x8Gig Patriot viper steel series 4000mhz
SSD: Samsung Evo 500gb
HDD: Seagate barracuda 1T
PSU: Gigabyte G750H modular
Chassis: Storm Stryker
OS: windows 10 64 bit

I'm running Z11 for my motherboard as I was told this was the most stable. Do you suggest I upgrade?

Admittedly new to overclocking and PC building. (Kinda) I upped the ram ratio to 35 and set the dram voltage to 1.5 and steadily upped to a Max of 1.65.

Is there other steps, the tutorial ended here

You will kill your cpu. DDR4 should not be operated past 1.35V. Absolute maximum in OC mode is 1.45V - and it's already past max allowed specs.

1.5V is standard voltage for DDR3 and 1.65V max allowed voltage.

Oh, good shout. Thankfully the CPU seems to still be fine. But it still wasn't working within the voltages for ddr4.

Any ideas?
