I have a HP Pavilion 526x that won't boot up. It has a constant beep and the keyboard and mouse don't work. I have tried clearing the CMOS but haven't been able to.
Have you tried connecting an external keyboard, while the laptop is turned off, and then turning it on? It may well let you turn it on then, if the attached keyboard is the problem.
If that works, you would have to either replace the attached keyboard, or keep using an external one. This goes for a mouse as well.
It's a desktop, and I tried that but it is still the same. The problem first happened when I put a magicJack in the USB socket. The sound started and the computer locked up up. All it has is the POST screen and neither keyboard nor mouse responds.
The magicJack unit was bad, but I can't see why I can't clear out anything it did and restart the computer. I think I should be able to clear out the CMOS and everything would be OK, but nothing I've tried worked. If I remove the power to the motherboard the beeping stops. If I remove the RAM a different beep sequence starts.Replacing the the RAM bring me back to the original situation. There are no jumpers on the motherboard. I think it is a goldfish board.
I found a way to get the computer to start booting up, but I got a "BOOT FAILURE INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message. I don't know if the hard disk is bad, but putting a floppy system disk will boot the computer but still the keyboard doesn't work.
