Hi there!

I have recently bought Elite: Dangerous but cannot run it on my current setup, and am currently looking for a new PC.
I have limited Knowledge in the hardware side of PCs and am hoping to get some advice on whether I should buy the following setup for Elite / Gaming in general.

Processor Brand AMD
Processor Type Athlon
Processor Speed 4.30 GHz
Processor Socket FM2
Processor Count 4
RAM Size 8 GB
Computer Memory Type DDR3 SDRAM
Hard Drive Size 1 TB
Hard Disk Technology SATA
Hard Drive Interface Serial ATA-600
Graphics Card Description Geforce GTX 750 Ti
Graphics RAM Type DDR3 SDRAM
Graphics Card Ram Size 2 GB
Graphics Card Interface PCI-E

Elite: Dangerous system requirements:

OS: Windows 7, Windows 8
CPU: Intel Core i7 - 3770K or better / AMD FX 4350 or better
RAM: 8GB RAM
VIDEO: Nvidia GTX 770 / ATI Radeon R9 280X
HDD: 7GB Available Space

( I just basically want a definite thumbs up before I spend money on this! -and whether this will be able to run Low, High or Medium settings?)

Solution
Hmm, where do i start with this one, First off that 750 ti is not really that powerful now a days, and Athlons arnt the best for gaming due to the poor single core performance, if you really want to get better performance i would swap to Intel due to the WAYYY faster single core speed. So this is what i would do
Core i5 4590
GTX 960 or R9 280
and keep the 8GB RAM and 1TB hardrive

so final though, do NOT buy that Athlon rig it will hold you back not just in Elite: Dangerous but in other games as well

Thanks alot for the info! So do you think it would be worth spending another 150 on this instead? Im guessing it will be more of an investment in the long run :

(Its also lower in Ghz, is that less important than the graphics card for gaming?) sorry about all the questions, Im new to all this. Thanks again

That PC is really not bad at all! i have the GTX 960 and it is no slouch and the 960 is about twice as powerful as the 750 ti. the only thing i see that could me a problem is the small SSD but if you dont need alot of storage it will be fine but if you need more storage this is a good one and i own it aswell - http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Desktop-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK

Forgot to say even tho the i5 is a lower clock speed than the Athlon the faster architecture in the i5 it is about 3 times as fast.

Thanks for all the information, Ive got alot to learn! Ive decided to spend a bit more and go for the recommended setup ( the GTX 960 )
It sounds like it will be definietly worth it in the long run. Ive got a 1TB external hard drive so I can use that when the space starts running out.

(the following setup seems to have a bigger hard drive, and be at least £50 cheaper: I cant find a reason why, apart from being .1 less in Ghz, so I might go for this instead)

that one has the i5 4460 which is the same as the 4590 just 100mHz slower so you wont see any performance difference, Happy Gaming!
