Hi.

I am currently have problems with my PC when running games on high graphics, its a Decent PC and should be able to run games like Company of Heroes 2 on max settings. It has been doing this fine until recently after I dropped the box containing the pc, The game now lags on the highest settings, I have tried to resit my graphics card but to no avail. Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

processor cores are all running at a cool sub 45'

My specs:
Intel i5 4690k processor
MSI gtx 970 graphics card
8GB ram
Windows 7
MSI motherboard 970

Solution
Let's think of it logically. Loose RAM wouldn't cause a computer to run slowly. If it's loose, the computer just won't work. The data is either sent properly or not with RAM, there's no inbetween or way for it to slow down.

Same with the graphics card. It either works, or it doesn't. Nothing physically, besides temperatures, is going to slow it down. I noticed he has not yet used MSI Afterburner to monitor CPU of each core and GPU usage. until then, we won't know.
@Oliver, I agree with turkey3_scratch. You most likely knocked the CPU cooler loose. Download the program below and tell us the CPU (and GPU) temp and utilization while it's idle in Windows, and while it's under load playing a game. After you report back the numbers, and if it's indeed the case, then you'll need to acquire a small tube of thermal paste, isopropyl alcohol, and one or two paper towels, to remove and re-apply paste, before reseating the CPU cooler.

He gave temps in the original post, but it couldn't hurt to check.

Ugh. So he did. I completely overlooked that "minor" detail. I'm not sure if damaged sectors on a hard drive could cause this issue. But it couldn't hurt to do a chkdsk /r on the volume. On a 500 GB volume, it'll take approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

<click> windows start button -> <type> cmd <hit enter> in "search programs and files"
Black DOS prompt should appear
<type> chkdsk /r <hit enter>
<type> 'y' <hit enter>
Reboot computer

! Once test begins, you only have a 10 second window to abort test by hitting any key. If you don't abort test then you are committed to completing it. It's probably best to do before going to bed, so that you're not waiting around for it to complete.

I also like @matalauxilia's idea bout reseating everything.

I have tried to do this, chkdisk/r thing but it says 'access denied, insufficient privileges you have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode'. The software isnt picking anything up about the HDD it seems to be working fine, how do I check the Ram?

cheers
