My config:
i5,4440
gigabyte H81m-s1
Wd green HDD,
corsair cx 500
8 gb gskill ripjaws x

Today,i just turned on my pc,it hanged while i was browsing, alt+ctrl+del wasn't showing task manager screen as always. So,I decided to restart it manually, unfortunately i pressed reset button(never pressed it before) and on restart it showed please enter bootable media.
i restarted again(by power switch this time),it started booting but suddenly showed blue screen(didn't read it) and restarted again.
now all it shows is please enter bootable media. Is my HDD dead or I just need to reinstall windows 7?

I only once used reset(2 month ago) when i tested the then new pc with kali linux live version, but after i removed usb it was still loading linux so i used reset nd it again then started asking for bootable media. Then i installed windows 7.I started having problems of hanging since i updated my windows 2 weeks ago from today .

If you had been experiencing major performance issues like Windows freezing for several seconds while accessing the HDD every now and then, a dead HDD is a definite possibility.

Does your PC's BIOS still detect the HDD? If not, try re-seating the connectors at both ends of the SATA cable and the power cable. If that makes no difference, your HDD is either dead or no longer wants to talk to your motherboard for some reason.

If you have another PC, you could try connecting your PC's HDD to it and take a look at what you can get out of it.

i tried to boot from HDD using bios,it hanged after loading windows screen and now in bios I cannot see booting option from Hdd

Also i tried booting with a random cd,obviously didn't boot, but then optical drive option from bios also went away, then i thought maybe my sata port is defective,so i put only hdd sata on other port, then restarted, now it only shows booting from optical drive option in bios. plz help
