PC assembly on concrete floor

I've read it's recommended to build a PC on tiles or wood floor, now I have a wooden desk but our floor here is concrete. What do you say about that? Is it static prone? Should I wear shoes or should I do it barefooted?

Put your system together on your desk. If you have the motherboard outside of the case, just use the box the motherboard came in to keep it from damaging the desk. I do recommend wearing a grounding strap though. A little bit of static electricity can fry your entire system.

Do not allow fluids on your desk while building the system. Once the system is put together, never allow fluids above the system.

This is all common sense, but so many people never think about it, and one spilled drink can do hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in damage.

Good advise and I would like to add a bit. Building on an elevated, clean surface is always advisable. The floor is almost always going to have things on in that can get into the case and cause issues.

On grounding, make sure that what your grounding strap is attached to is actually grounded. I see many people attach their strap to their metal computer case or PSU but this won't actually provide a ground. You can use the case as a ground but you need to have the power supply screwed in, turned off, and connected to the wall with a 3 prong power cable.
