I have had this PC for around 6 months now, the problem at hand has only started as of the past month.

So far after reading some forums, I've tried, a fresh install of Windows 11 and used DDU for fresh drivers. Tried lower power limit in MSI Afterburner to 80%. Checked all cables in the machine to make sure they are situated correctly and not broken upon inspection.

Checked BIOS Updates etc as well which are all okay. Just looking for some more possible answers for this.

PC Specs.

12th Gen i7-12700
16GB DDR5 RAM
RTX 3080
Acer Predator P05-640 MB
800W Gold Rated PSU.

Unsure on makes on all these as it was a pre-built machine.

TIA

Most of the time what you're describing is a power issue. The most likely culprit is something among GPU power delivery, cables being problematic or the PSU failing. Is this crash happening just under load conditions or is it completely random?

My personal story of this happening was on my 1660 Ti I hadn't gotten the 6+2 plugged in right so if there was enough vibration on the tower it would crash in exactly this fashion.

It's only happening with certain games e.g Rocket League (Unreal engine) Hell Let Loose (Also Unreal Engine) and Skyrim so far.

The new call of duty has been running perfectly fine for long sessions 3+hours and RDR2 for similar sessions.

Just seems a bit inconsistent with games.

Are you running those games with uncapped frame rates? If so that could be what's triggering it as those are all very light and won't stress your GPU so it is maybe possible it's unstable at high clockspeeds. You should check to see what clockspeeds the GPU is running at when running one of the games prone to crashing. If you don't already have it installed MSI Afterburner is great for showing clocks/temps/voltage.

Yeah all uncapped FPS on those games. Rocket League is definetly the worst one.

I have tried lowering the clock speed and changing the power limit to 80% for rocket league on MSI Afterburner but still same issue.

Just to update,

After decreasing the clock speed on the core and memory and increasing the fans to run at 60% constantly aswell as capping frames to 144. The GPU appears to be okay for now. Temp is remaining below 50degrees throughout 2 games.

Will post later in the week to see if this has resolved it.

It still sounds like a power delivery problem, but if capping the frame rate does work then it's related to the stress of high fps more than just load on the GPU. This would lead me to believe it's more likely the GPU than any of the other parts.

You hadn't mentioned in the original post were temps also an issue? I know on my card I had to manually adjust the fan curve because it was set like it would be for air cooling so it would get hot under load because the fans weren't ramping right.

I originally thought it was temp of the CPU but managed to rule this out after applying some new thermal paste. Temps more stable on that now.

The GPU however(before adjusting fans manually) would reach 70+ on the likes of Rocket League. I will look into adjusting the fan curve.

Thank you for your prompt replys, greatly appreciated considering this is giving me a headache! :D

Yeah I can certainly understand that one. FWIW I'd expect the GPU temps to be in the upper 60s-mid 70s under load with hotspot and memory in the 80s.

I ran mine undervolted for a long time just to keep power consumption more where I wanted and kept clockspeeds around 1900 maximum. Once I started playing a few games I wanted to have high fps with heavy graphics I ran the OC tuner and have just limited GPU power. Typically the maximum stable clocks I've gotten with the standard BIOS (in my case it's 400W) and voltage is 2020-2040. I tend to cap FPS on everything to 144hz though (my monitors max) just to limit system stress on lighter titles.
