PC blackscreen 980ti.

Hello guys. So, my buddy bought a 980ti recently, and we have some issues since then. Under load, he suddenly sees black screen some times, but pc does not shut down. We bought a new PSU form Coolermaster today which is 700w and can easily handle 980ti, and the issue remains. Any ideas of what could be happening? Thank you in advance. When he sees the black screen, i can still hear him on discord, if that helps.

the temps when he manually sets the fan are at 70s. he now has the CoolerMaster MasterWatt Lite 700W which we bought today together. the issue existed before we bought a new psu though. i dont think he has any reason to run gpu-z, when he sees black screen after a while when playing a demanding game.

you do not know even if the gpu dont go over 70 it might not be able to handle high load that why i ask you to do the test could not do anymore .

Full system specs? Cooler master's low end units like the masterwatt lite are not good units. Most likely causes are poor PSU stability or your buddies new(likely used) 980ti is defective.

i5 4440, msi b85m-p32, 2x 4gb ram at 1333, and the psu i mentioned. i dont know about that psu stability you are telling me, but no way a new 80plus 700watt psu has instabilities when it works at like 60%. so, the conclusion is that the issue is the card, which yes is used, its the evga 980ti founders. he had an msi 760 2gb twin frozr before. and im pretty confident that if the issue is from the card itssef, it would probably need a reflow...cause this only happens under load. thanks for your reply

A low quality psu can have voltage stability issues at any load, new or not. Highly doubt it's a solder issue. The 980ti wasn't know to have that problem and if it was a bad/cracked solder the issue would not just happen under load.

We reinstalled the drivers for the gpu, and the issue has now stopped for about a week or so. Thank you for your time guys.
