i have a month old pc and after installing a new graphics card (SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 OC WITH BOOST) the boot up is very slow from post and to windows. takes about 6 to 10 mins.
my current specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 3.20-3.60GHz (Quad Core) Haswell
MOBO: LGA1150 Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3
RAM: Gskill RipjawsX 4GB Single 1600 CL9 (2x)
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 500GB
PSU: FSP Raider 550watts 80Plus Silver
VGA: SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 OC WITH BOOST
CASE: Cooler Master K350 Casing with 120mm red LED fan
CASE FAN: 3x 120mm
OS: WIN 7 ultimate 64bit.
the graphics card came in after 2 days ago and went ahead and installed it. i don't have an optical drive available so i went ahead and downloaded the drivers from the sapphire webpage then installed it. the first two days was great. no problems. the next day i turned of my pc and the boot was very slow.
- upon pressing the power button, no display on monitor. no signal message. no beeps.
- after 30 seconds. one beep then post screen came up. it was stuck there for about 1-2 mins.
- then blank screen, then a blinking cursor came out, then windows loading screen shows up
- i noticed that the animation of the windows logo was sluggish. it was stuck here for about 3-4 mins.
- then screen is blank. windows loading screen screen showed up again for about 15 sec. then blank again.
- windows welcome screen showed up and loaded my desktop ok. the display is on full resolution but then i noticed that performance of the display is sluggish. watching videos off YouTube was also stuttering. it like there's no driver installed.
- so i turned off the pc. re-seated the graphics card. then boot up is ok. took less than a minute.
- came back from work, booted up the pc. then there goes the slow boot up again.
- i restarted the pc. then boot up is ok! but just to make sure. i restarted and there goes the slow boot up!
so far what i have done for troubleshooting:
- hook up the dvi cable to onboard vga, no problems, even after multiple restarts.
- defaulted the bios settings. still slow boot up.
- re-install the driver. im not sure if i did this right. i just uninstalled the driver and AMD Catalyst Center through Control Panel > Programs & Features.
- replace the 2x 6 pin connector off the graphics cards and replace with the 4 to 6 pins converter cable. still slow boot up
- i took off the R9 270x card out and put in my old VGA card (GeForce 9400). boot up is ok even after multiple restarts. i did this checking of the MOBO is what giving the issue.
the problem is very intermittent. but most of the time boots up very slow. but if it did boot up ok, everything seems be fine. i can play games no problem. ran MSI Kombuster. no problems. i sent the graphics card back to where i bought it, they will check the card and see if its qualified for replacement after testing it.
but if the card is ok. will the problem be coming off from the mother board or the power supply? can it be a software or driver problem? what other troubleshooting can i do? ill try again once i get the card back. TIA.
