PC boots but nothing on screen

I have this 12 year old PC and booted it up on Sunday. All was well until I turned it off. When I tried to boot it up again there was nothing on screen, my keyboard and mouse were not flashing at all but the fans were still working. I have two LEDs on the front, one green, the other red. The red one didn't flash at all. But when I turned it off and pressed the button again it booted up just fine. I did it a few times after the first one but yesterday it didn't show anything on screen no matter how many times I restarted it.

When you are able to, please provide a list of your system components.

Did you do anything for the machine before starting it up. Like cleaning or reseating connections?

If it sat for that long I would rip it completely apart, clean everything, put it back together and try again... Then we'll go from there.

I agree with HamBown, also usually on the motherboard there will be LED indicators as well, if you tel us the model we can have a look on the manufacturer's support website or motherboard manual to identify what the LEDs mean.

I have diagnosed a few PC's with these problems and each time it was: CPU problem, Motherboard problem, GPU problem.
Sometimes all you need to do is reset the CMOS in the motherboard, that worked for one of these computers.

If I were you I would troubleshoot each component individually and eliminate as many possibilities as you can.

Little update:I removed one of the RAM sticks and the pc booted just fine. Everything is working ok. I am gonna put the RAM back to make sure it IS the problem.

That isn't necessarily out of the loop. Re-seating things (CPU, GPU, RAM) is part of what tearing it down and cleaning would take care of.

Oh yeah, by the way, I replaced the CMOS battery yesterday and apparently the old one had died because I put it in my Fender Tunner (for guitars) which fortunately uses the same kind of batteries and it didn't work. As for the RAM it may not have been seated properly, but I didn't really notice anything. Anyway, thanks for at least replying, my PC seems to be working properly now.

Oh and I guess one of the RAM sticks had actually slipped out before the whole thing because my PC said I only have 1 GB RAM while I actually have two. But now it shows that I have two gigs. Thanks for the help guys!
