[SOLVED] PC boots into "Preparing automatic repair" then goes to a blank screen

Yesterday I tried to connect an old drive to my pc, it could not boot with the drive and after trying for an hour or so I stopped trying and disconnected the HDD. When I then tried to boot the pc it went into "Preparing automatic repair", and after loading it goes into a black screen with the cursor and I can move it. It left it for a couple hours and it still won't boot into windows. I tried booting into a windows repair tool but it finishes loading and then goes into a black screen with the cursor.

Any idea how I can fix this? even trying to boot from a flash drive is not working and doing the same thing

Try a clear cmos first.,then see if you can get into the bios by tapping delete right after starting the pc again, if in the bios set the normal boot disc as nr1 and see if it will work.

Think that drive maybe was a boot drive and has created problems because of that.

If the above will not work might it be needed to start from an install usb for windows and get into the repair options, Use the command prompt (as admin) and recreate the boot sector.

I'll try that, I doubt it was a boot drive though since it was originally an external 3TB hard drive that just wouldn't open/load/show when connected so we tried opening to get the harddrive and connect it like a normal hard drive.
