Hello, I'm new around here.

I have recently upgraded my PC from a Pentium 3 to a Pentium 4. I replaced the mainboard, CPU, PSU, RAM and video card, but kept my old HDD, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, soundcard and modem. This was the first time I'd done a major upgrade, so I took the time to make sure everything was wired and seated properly.

Since booting the system I have had no problems or conflicts. However, on two occasions my PC has started itself and I'm not sure why. I initially put it down to a power surge, but I have been wondering if anything else could be responsible. After shutting my computer down I usually leave it plugged in at the mains outlet via a 4 socket extension.

Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated...many thanks in advance.

System spec:

17" Trinitron Monitor
13 GB ATA33 HDD

Definatly disable all "wakeon" option in the bios. It was probably waking up when someone called your house. The modem detected the incomming call, and powered up the beastie.

And if that doesn't work disable 'keyboard powerup' and 'restart after power failure' inside the BIOS.

My CPU runs so hot the arctic silver undergoes nuclear fusion  .

"wake on ring"

Is that when you are awoken in the middle of the night when your boyfriend tries to have anal sex with you?
