I just did my first PC build, and although the PC boots no signal is displayed.

The CPU, chassis, and video card fans all turn on when I press the power button, and the power LED turns on as well.

I am currently using a HDMI cable and my TV as a monitor, although I have tried using DVI and a standard computer monitor as well. I also tried swapping out the RAM.

What else should I do to narrow down the problem? Should I check my wiring?

Solution
1.Press the auto setting on your monitor when the pc is powered on and see if it fixes the hdmi problem
Check if your tv is turned on and on the correct hdmi mode before performing #1

2.Check your psu wires if they are securely connected.

3.Reseat your graphics card so it fits firmly

Post your graphics card type and PSU, to check if it is getting enough power if the above fails to work

The GPU is a GTX 580 (bought it for super cheap) and the power supply is a CX600m. I've tried using the onboard video ports as well as the 580's ports, but none have worked so far.

If your GPU is this one: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Mini-HDMI-Lifetime-Warranty-015-P3-1580-AR/dp/B004B8VL64

And your PSU:http://www.corsair.com/en/cx-series-cx600m-modular-atx-power-supply-600-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-psu

You've just hit the minimum requirements at 600W

I would check if it has extra power connectors that can go into the motherboard/GPU like these ones:http://i.stack.imgur.com/jgXsd.jpg

Otherwise, try the above steps listed in my previous post.

You could try going for a PSU around 700W if no one else has posted here any other possible solutions.

I unplugged and removed the GPU, and now the computer displays a signal to the TV. Any ideas as to why the 580 was causing a problem? The power draw should have been sufficient.

1.To make sure if the wattage is enough, calculate the wattage required here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

2. Check compatibility issues using pc part picker: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

3.You could try setting your onboard graphics as default in your bios settings. Plug back in your graphics card and if it boots into windows normally:
Install the drivers that came with your GPU (should be from a CD or website)
Update them
Restart your pc and check if the GPU is working
