So i bought 3dmark earlier today, tested it out on Extreme and I was down at 7 FPS on the combined test.
On Arma 3 I run around 15 FPS with "optimal settings" which i found online ( Best graphics possible with minimal performance loss ) Which for these parts I still think is really low, Friend is using 8350 and gtx 660ti and averaging 25fps with the same settings in the same gameplay.

On the trial run of 3dmark which I ran yesterday on Fire Strike it gave me the achievement Brawn
Brawn
Your GPU is ready to rumble, but your CPU doesn't want to play.

Is my CPU bottlenecked?
Would i be better upgrading my motherboard so I can actually overclock(Current 4.0ghz fx8320)? My current motherboard allows for no more OC'ing
I was thinking to upgrade to Asus AMD Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 which i'm told allows for alot of room with OCing. paired with my h80i.

I didn't save the trial run of 3dmark that showed the brawn achievement but if needed i can rerun it to show scores.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The cpu is a cheap one, while it could be causing you some FPS issues, keep in mind you don't have the greatest card either. You didnt even mention the most important thing: What resolution you are running at...Your friend could be running at 1600x900 or 720p while you are trying 1080p or 1440p. Resolution has the biggest impact on performance.

Honestly your whole rig could use an upgrade if you are looking to game at decent settings with those games.

Here is the 3dmark benchmark which gives me CPU bottleneck achievement.

Both of us run at 1080p, I understand its not the greatest card, But it is still a good card. And other people are performing better with this setup

I can not afford a full upgrade, I bought these parts around 6 months ago expecting them to be good as they were some of the best at the time of purchase.

While I thankyou for trying to help. Due to my financial situation, I can only buy from www.argos.co.uk
And neither of these parts are on this website, There is alternatives but I am not sure if they are upto standard

Yes and budget would have to be £200. Mrs will not let me spend more and ofcourse the CPU can't be sold to go towards this yet as i need to use it until i get the parts.

Looking at benchmarks, the FX 8320 was £100 and has benchmarks better than the intel 4440 for £160. I really think just a motherboard upgrade would work for OCing the fx to around 4.6?
It also has better benchmarks than the i5-4670k which is £209

Were those gaming benchmarks or just the regular benchmarks? The fx-8xxx doesn't beat an i5 for gaming at all, it's slightly behind in many benchmarks (including arma 3)

You can definitely just upgrade the mobo if you like, nothing wrong with an OC'd FX-8xxx.

Mobo: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3057139.htm

£204 total for the intel option. Not sure which would ultimately cost you more between the sabre and going intel. I don't think there's a wrong answer here, I was just giving you an alternative :)

I was on about
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
I'm really not sure which I should do at the moment. What sort of FPS increase would I be looking at with the intel you recommended compared to my fx 8320 if i overclocked it .6 ghz faster with the asus mobo linked earlier?

Yeah but not many games use more than 4 cores effectively right now. Battlefield uses all 8 cores:

http://pclab.pl/zdjecia/artykuly/chaostheory/2013/10/bf4/charts/bf4_cpu_geforce.png

And you can see that once OC'd your 8320 will pull ahead of the i5-4440

In games that don't make use of the extra cores it's all about performance-per-core and the i5 wins there. Starcraft only makes us of two cores, for example:

So the FX even loses to the two core i3 there.

Watch dogs: http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/827/bench/CPU_01.png

You can see that both CPUs are putting up respectable framerates for sure

I'm definitely intel biased by the way so I know what I would choose, but as I said you can't go wrong here imo

Well, I've already bought a H80i as I expected to be OC'ing my CPU but didn't think about mobo allowing for OC in the first place. When the 8320 is OC it does match an i5 and in some circumstances pulls ahead, I think with the asus mobo I can OC to atleast 4.6ghz and my cpu runs on arma 3 at around 18*c 4.0ghz.
