I'm looking for some advice:

1. With the following setup how long will I get before I need to upgrade again?
2. How long will I be able to play games on at least mid-high settings?
3. Does the power supply have a good reputation or a bad one?

My uses for the following build are University work and gaming:

i5-4590
8GB DD3 1600mhz CL11
1TB HD SATAIII
MSI H81M-E33 Motherboard
EVGA 500B power supply (80+ Bronze Standard) http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=100-B1-0500-KR
Windows 8.1 Student
Geforce 650 or 660 or 750 or 760

On DreamScape I can download Windowns 8.1 pro embedded industyr for free. What are the pros and cons with that?

The CPU is a good choice. I don't know much about the motherboard. I have that same power supply just the 600B (600 Watt version) and it has been working for the last 2 months without a problem. I like EVGA's GPU's, so I thought I would give their PSU's a try. That setup should last you quite a while. Really it depends on what advancements they make in games in the future..So tough question to answer. But if anything, you will only need to upgrade your GPU as time goes on. That CPU should last through another GPU I would think.

What is your budget? It definitely wouldn't hurt to get a little better GPU.

The GPU aint important, I dont mind upgrading that more frequently as I encounter games which I cant play on decent settings. I'm actually on a Geforce 460 now and get high settings on most games.

With the PSU has here been any burning smells? Any shut-downs when maxed out?

Do you mean by WIndiows 8.1 student instead of downloading the free Windows 8.1 embedded industry pro?
