Hey everyone,

First time poster, but I was just looking to receive some feedback on my 2nd PC build. Two years ago I built a HTPC, and this summer I decide to build a Gaming PC in leiu of buying a PS4 or Xbone. This past school year I have played a few games on my HTPC with a 6670. The 6670 is starting to struggle and that is why I decide to upgrade.

Gaming Rig Specs:

MOBO: http://

CPU: http://

RAM: http://

PSU: http://

SSD: http://

Right now I am waiting on picking up a 1tb 7200 HDD to install games on and a 7970 ( waiting to find a good deal).

My questions are how beneficial would it be to overclock my CPU to play games? (thinking of next gen games like battlefield 4 and so on)

Also do you recommend that I purchase a 2nd stick of ram for dual channel?

Thanks in advance for taking your time too look.

Overclocking on the asrock extreme 4 (I also have this) is very easy and have my 3770k at 4.3ghz comfortably, you may want to get a after market cpu cooler however, OC does create more heat,

cpu overclocking is pretty much free performance boosts and i saw a good 3-5fps better after the overclock, which isnt bad for nothing,
im currently hoping my pc will be able to go for battlefield 4 easily and at decent fps,

and ram wise, the 8GB should be fine, you would see a difference if you went to 16GB but not sure it would be worth the extra cash for the amount of gain you'd get,

hope this helps :)

I would definitely go for dual channel memory. CPU overclocking will increase your performance greatly in certain games that are heavily CPU dependent, such as Star Craft II or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If you are planning to get the 3570k, it is ideal for you to overclock to get the most out of your money. If you plan on overclocking (which you should), you will need a decent cooler, since the stock Intel cooler is horrific to overclock with. If you're looking for something cheap, I suggest the Cooler Master Hyper 212, or the NZXT Respire T40. You will be able to obtain a decent overclock with either of those coolers. If you need something more efficient, the H60 by Corsair or the Seidon 120m are both great liquid coolers for the price. Other than that, there should be nothing to really worry about- your build is great.

Spending on a dead LGA 1155 socket is not something that would be good. Better get a 4th Generation LGA 1150 socket motherboard and CPU which would be more future upgradable and will last longer. Can you just tell me your budget including the Graphics Card and the whole system. I might be able to pick something better for you.

There is always a room for improvement, even the experts make mistrakes sometimes. So just tell me your budget, i might be able to put together a better build for the same price, you never know!!

The items I have already linked I have purchased. 🙁 Most of these items I have purchased a month or two ago. Although I am not an expert at CPU or sockets. Are not all 1150 sockets the same?

No no no..!!! you are getting me wrong, any CPU with a LGA 1150 socket should comfortable fit in any LGA 1155 motherboard even if it is a 40 dollar motherboard. What i was saying while assuming that you are building a new PC (which later went on to be false) i suggested you to get a LGA 1150 socket CPU. But since you have already bought the CPU + Motherboard there is no problem with that CPU + Motherboard combo. It is completely compatible. The confusion arose because i thought that you are building a new rig and buying new components. But since you already have the components then i do not think there is any problem with those parts.

For improvement i would suggest you to get a good water cooler (like the Corsair H80i) and overclock that CPU to 4 - 4.3 GHz. It would be an awesome performer with those clock speeds. Just overclock it and see much better performance in almost everything.
