Hello Everyone,

first of all I really appreciate what you are doing here, giving free advice and spending time on it.
I am from Europe but I am totally fine with using this pcpartpicker (it is awesome).

I would like to build a PC mostly for gaming/game dev with good cpu as it will be suitable as a work station and maybe some video editing here and there.

Here is my suggested build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rss9Cd

I would like to keep the CPU - i7 13700k and GPU RTX 4070 (but here I would like to know which type and manufacturer are best).

I would really need to suggest a motherboard suitable for this build.
Also I will take any suggestions and all of the other parts if there is better option for the money and I am very open to any case suggestions.

Thank you!

Could you tell us the country and your budget? and maybe the website you use to see the parts?

For productivity and dev, it might be best to go for Ryzen 7900 or 7950X. and the 4070 with 12gb vram might not be the best choice.

I imagine you would be working with high res unoptimised textures a lot as a dev, it helps to have a GPU with lots of VRAM.

I would suggest something like this:

16 core cpu for video editing or Intel 14700k for quick sync

big and quiet air cooler

64gb high speed ram

Solid mobo with beefy VRMs (unfortunatly no PCIE 5.0 SSD supp, you have to get the Asrock B650E riptide for that)

2 tb pcie 4.0 ssd for work drive

1tb os and program drive

7800XT 16gb

ATX 3.0 psu with 16 pin power connnector

good airflow case with included fans.

Lucky:

Thank you so much! I think I will go for the second build with RX7800 and Intel i7.
Could you maybe suggest another Mobo with DDR5 support, or do you think it is a few year before it will be worth it?
Also as I am living with my life partner and she is so concerned about the design, it this Case good in cooling and suitable for the whole build? That is still most important for me.

For the game development, do you need to test or implement Nvidia specific features such as DLSS, Raytracing, et cetera?
Great question. It is more like hobby not my real job so I do not think I need to implement such a specific features.

Thank you

The FD North is a great case! I think you might have to get some extra fans.

@effortcode no need for an SSD that comes with a heatsink. Almost all new boards these days include a M.2 heatsink for your SSD. Add a graphics card such as that RTX 4070 and you're good to go ^^

I didn't price compare with these three sites so you probably want to do that. CZC has a PC configurator on their website that you might find helpful.

Can't find a review on the i7 13700 but here's a review of the i7 12700 vs the unlocked 12 gen i7 with benchmarks.

i712700.jpg

what i mean to say is that for productivity sessions with premier pro and davinci resolve, with weak VRMs and especially with unlocked boost/turbo duration, the power usage would be 300W. the temps again would be close to 100c. So with that in mind, its better to have a Z790 board. otherwise, it would throttle to base clock speeds and hamper performance.

gaming should not be an issue as shown in the graphs above.

Z790 board for an unlocked i7 which means spending more money. Pair either of those MSI boards I posted which are 12 phase boards with a locked i7 and save money while getting near identical performance.

correct me if i am wrong, B760 boards wont allow unlocked turbo durations. there is no non k 14700 till now and the reason i suggested the 14700 is cuz of the extra E cores compared to the 13700 non k.

So limited boost clock duration with power throttling is the main reason i suggest Z690 and 14700k.

@Lucky_SLS
I will go for your last DDR5 build.

I will change the storage ADATA legend for Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB and go for the FD North Case.
Is there any reason I should think about going for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X ? (other thank financial)

Also @Why_Me thank you for the suggestion for czc, but I will go for alza as I have much better customer experience there. (They will both build and test the pc)

Thank you

the ryzen 7950X is definitely the heavy lifter but intel holds an advantage with its quick sync. if your tasks put the cpu utilisation at 100% more often, then go for ryzen.

pugeot systems summed up intel's quick sync vs ryzen perfectly in their article.

if you intend to load the workfiles from the 980 pro 1tb and export the processed files to the 2tb, then a 980 pro makes sense. if its just to load up OS and the programs, the 980 pro gives u little to no benefit.
