I am looking to build a PC for the purpose of audio recording with the latest version of Pro Tool 10. I have a keyboard, mouse, monitor, Xion computer case (I will need to purchase everything else and want to run Windows as the operating system).
I have an M-Audio NRV-10 audio interface which works with Pro Tools. The NRV-10 has a firewire output
I have a motherboard in the computer currently which I expect to have to change but just for kicks it is an Abit (RoHS) - PCI Express - CE n11360- NF-M2S v:1.0 - Serial ATA - USB 2.0
I also have a good powersuply for the computer and fans (AMD)
I also have a 2TB WD Ultra portble Hard Drive usb 3.0
I want the computer to run ProTools really well but I don't want to break the bank. I want to spend between $500-1200 depending on the performance return I get for spending more money.
Thanks, Pete

As far as I can tell, you don't need anything very demanding as audio is not a challenging task.

Other than recommending a Haswell setup with something like an i5-4670K and suitable 1150 motherboard (with FIREWIRE), and 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB) memory I don't know what else to recommend.

I recommend just using the i5's iGPU for graphics unless you want some light gaming as well.

I'm assuming you'd also get a good audio card but you can research that easily, or get something like the Asus Hero Maximus VI with SupremeFX audio. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_HERO/

It does NOT have FIREWIRE, but you can likely get a PCIe card for that. I wonder how many motherboards support Firewire now?

1xPCIe Firewire card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=firewire+pcie&N=-1&isNodeId=1

You can go to pcpartspicker and peruse the parts.
