Hello,

I need help putting together a new PC. I searched, but it was overwhelming with info and also most people are looking for gamming machine. I don't want to waste money on expensive GPU that I don't need.

My current laptop is an Intel i7 Quart core, 8gb RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 640. It is 7 year old now and can die anytime.

Thanks so much for all the inputs/comments

Approximate Purchase Date: in next couple months

Budget Range: $1000 - $1500 for the PC (can spend up to $2500 for monitors and keyboard and mouse, and Window, and MS Office)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: I'm getting into day trading, may be some scalping trading, I would like to be able to run multiple trading applications like TradingView, ThinkOrSwim, NinjaTrading, and TastyTrade... I do some applications programming like Visual Studio and Sql Server. I also surfing the internet, watching movies.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, at least 2

Parts to Upgrade: n/a

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, window 11
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
newegg, Amazon, BestBuy... Within US

Location: Upstate NY

Parts Preferences: any

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: Higher is better, but at least 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I would like a quiet PC. Also I would like to get into trading and I will run multiple monitors (3 - 4) at same time.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My current laptop is 7 year old.

Welcome tot he forums, newcomer!

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, at least 2
Can you share what you've narrowed down or are eyeing to purchase? I presume you should be good to go with the onboard with any of the concurrent platformed system's though entry~mid level GPU is where it should be for you given the sort of tasks you do.

This allows you to fit a couple of 1080P 120hz IPS monitors in your budget. That Asus card down below has dual HDMI ports which is a nice feature when running x amount of monitors.

May I suggest you start with a large 4k monitor like this LG48"monitor:
https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-48gq900-b
With 4k resolution and a physically large size, you can place many windows of the size you want.
The dimensions of 4k will be higher with more viewing area.
With a sufficiently large desk, you might be able to put two side by side.
With wall mount capability, I could envision three rotated 90 degrees.

As to the pc itself, The Why-ME build above looks ok to me.
You may want to start with integrated graphics.
A discrete graphics card might be needed if you need three monitors.

Something like this would also do:

The GPU got 3 display ports and a HDMI.

Not knowing for sure how much ram you may need, to run all those things at once, I opted for 64gb, as it's pretty cheap right now, in DDR4. Also went with the 12700k, for more multitasking capability.

All 3 recommended builds are very tempting. I like Why_Me build with i5-13500 energy sufficient and RTX 3050 GPU has lots of outputs. However the builds from Lucky_SLS and logainofhades are less expensive. These can save me money toward monitors.

At any given price point the price/performance of the processor will be comparable.
If this pc is going to be used to make you money, buy the best you can afford.
The Why_Me build is reasonable, and meets your stated budget range.
If you temporarily want to spend less, You can defer on the 3050 card and use the integrated graphics.
One only needs a discrete graphics card for fast action gaming or when you need to attach more than the two outputs that come with the motherboard(one DP and one hdmi)
I5-13500 also comes with a cooler that will be adequate.
At least try it out first. Under load it can get noisy when all cores are fully loaded. I would not expect to see that on a trading system.

They want to run 3-4 monitors, at the same time, so they need a discrete GPU. Since gaming isn't a concern, the Arc 380 is a solid choice.

Understood.
But, if the OP wants to start with one or two monitors, integrated is a decent use to start with.
I would think that a single large 4k monitor would be the most useful for a day trader.
And, I would agree that the Intel A380 would be a good card to use.
