Hello! I am new to building PC's and I have wanted to build a gaming rig for some time now. I have a budget of up to 1600 (AUD) but an amount like 50 dollar over doesnt bother me. I want to incorporate the ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix and i5-6600 (K is optional at the moment). Any list created would be lifesaving. Thanks!

Solution
If you are going for non-K, then go for i5-6500, 6600 is bad value. The 970 is not what you want. GTX 1070 will be released in 1 month's time, costs around $50 more, yet will give performance roughly equal to that of the 980ti (or at least better than 980 for sure), so you could wait a month.

Okay. Well then what is the list of parts would you put in the build (including 1070 and i5-6500)?

Additional money can go for an SSD, OS (if you need one) and maybe peripherals. Until the 1070 arrive you can use the onboard graphics of the i5-6500. The GTX 1070 will cost around $50 aud more than the 970 (but will be twice as powerful so it's worth it and comes with 8gb ram instead of 3.5gb), which should make it around $600. The build I've linked is $785, that leaves $225 for an ssd perhaps and an OS, or you can invest towards 1080.
