Hey guys, a few years back I was here on the forums planning my first pc build, but after covid and the whole frenzy of expensive parts and stock shortages that ensued, I sort of put the project on hold for a bit with the intention of returning to it later. A few years have passed and I am finally trying to put this thing together and would appreciate any feedback on the build and if I should maybe replace some of the possibly outdated parts (as many were purchased in 2020 e.g. the cpu and mobo). I am still looking to maintain a mid tier build (whatever that means anymore) and would appreciate any advice or direction. Cheers.

My current parts:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Processor
MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB Memory
Corsair RMx 650 W Power Supply
Sapphire Nitro + 6700xt Graphics Card

Final parts I am thinking of getting:

NZXT H7 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVME SSD
LG 27GP850-B 27" Monitor

Maybe consider getting the 5600X3D CPU. Probably go for more storage than faster storage unless they are close in price. That case is decent but could probably get one that is similar but cheaper. The fractal Design Focus 2 can usually be had for about 60-70 dollars. That monitor is also a great fit, though you may need a better graphics card to run it fast and high details sooner than expected (2-3 years).

Hey there,

Here's what I'd do.

As above, get a faster CPU. Your CPU sends pre-rendered frames to the GPU. The faster the CPU can do this, the more your GPU will be able to output FPS wise.

The 5600x3d is a stellar gamer. If you want a good uplift in any other situation, then having more cores like a 5700x might suit. Either way, if you get a new CPU, make sure to update the bios first before installing it.

Stick with your current mobo. It's very solid.

Which ram exactly do you have? If not 3200/3600mhx, you might consider this with a faster CPU.

PSU is good for now.

Case wise, Lian Li 216 is pretty good for the price, and has great airflow.

For the SSD, will it be the only drive in the system? If that's your planning, then I'd suggest getting a fast enough boot drive (512gb to 1tb is fine - The 990 Pro), and then have your games and stuff on a separate drive something like a 970Pro 2 tb.

With direct storage coming online with newer games, you could argue the 990 Pro as the game drive would be good. But you could swap those around if so.

Edit: I'm on the hunt for a new 1440p myself. The LG looks very good. A bit more pricey than others in that area of spec, but I'd rather pay for quality. Peace of mind.

the 5600X3D is 230USD and only available in microcenter store as pick up. the 5800X3D is currently at 320 USD but just last week it was on sale for 270 USD. So you can decide which one to get.

I am partial to 21:9 ultrawides. give it a look at any store nearby if you want.
