PC Build keeps shutting off

My new build which i built last week has been working fine up until now. I tried turning it on and the front power led was on. The PSU fan started spinning but then the computer just shut off itself. A few seconds later it tried to power up again but the same thing happened.

I then turned off my PSU and am now on here. Can someone please give me some advice as to what I can do to diagnose/fix the problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you checked the power button and reset button headers on the motherboard? Make sure they connected properly.

I had a similar issue with my new build. In my case the header wires were loose where they connect to the cases power button.

I've just checked that but the same thing is happening, do you think it may be the computer shutting itself off to stop the cpu overheating? Could it be something to do with thermal paste? If anyone can link me to a list o work through that would he very helpful.

1. Check your cables and make sure everything is plugged in and secure.

2. Try re-seating your CPU cooler. A rule of thumb is a pea-sized dot of thermal paste is enough.

3. You could try a different power supply, but beyond that you may need to RMA something.

My CPU temps maxed out at 70 whilst I was performing a torture test. For normal use they are around 45 degrees.

Also, does the fact that my power switch works rule out the motherboard being at fault?

The power switch will not rule out motherboard failure.

My PSU is the CX600M
GPU is XFX 7950 DD
MOtherboard is Asrock Z77 Pro3
Case is Cooler Master Elite 430
CPU is i5 3570k
Heatsink is Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Yes my CPU is overclocked to 4.2 GHz but i have not increased the voltage other than by adding 0.05 volts turbo voltage. I overclocked 3 days ago and it was working fine until now.

My GPU is slightly overclocked but my RAM isnt. Thank you for taking the time to help me btw, it really is appreciated.

Drop all the overclocks and see what happens. Leave the clocks stock until we figure this out.

I cant drop the overclocks as i cant get into BIOS. The system doesnt post and there are no error beeps when i plug my speaker in.

Try one stick of RAM at a time and try to boot.

Good news, whilst taking out the RAM, I disconnected and reconnected the main power cables and now it seems towork fine
