PC Build, mystery problem.

Hi there everyone. I just set up my pc, but when I turn it on, it constantly reboots before even getting to the bios. I figured it would be a cooling problem, but I have a h100i installed at it seems to be working (the light on the front comes on, and the fans on the rad spin up) so I can't see that being the problem. The motherboard also lights up (Asus Maximus Formula vi) but only half of the fans are even turning on. I can only think that I have a defective cpu, or something is shorting out the board. But I have looked everywhere and can not find anything exposed. If you need any more information, pictures or video to help diagnose the problem, please feel free to ask!

Do you have the 8pin cpu power connection hooked up?

Here is a really good troubleshooting guide to help. Some of the steps may seem obvious, but double check everything. It is probably something very simple. At least, let's hope it is! Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be on a new buld.

Sound like PSU problem.

Try this steps.
-Turn off the PSU from behind.
-After that push the power button for 30 sec to uncharge all the volts/watts from your system.
-The turn on the PSU button from behind and try to turn on your pc normally.

Great, I'll just go have a look and try all these things! Silly question, but you don't need the gpu installed for the system to boot if you have integrated graphics do you? I'm waiting on a 780 ti, but I wanted to test the system before with the haswell integrated graphics. Would that be a problem?

You should be able to boot with the integrated graphics.

Not at all.
HD 4600 from haswell is powerfull. You can play BF3 on medium maybe.

Ok, so I can rule that out, I'll go check everything now.

Ok, I tried the PSU, checkedthat the 8 pin was in place, and went through 1-9 and it wasn't any of them, before I go onto the ones that require me to take off the heatsink, I should also mention that the q led code on the mobo stays at 00 throughout the rebooting, could that be an indication?

Bah, according to your manual, the 00 code is 'unused'. Lots of help that is
Before taking off the heatsink (that's a pain to have to redo so try other things first)

-Try resetting CMOS, if you haven't already.
-Does the DRAM_LED near the MemOK! switch turn off, or is it staying on?

Both the cmos and memok led are hidden under the thermal armour I think, and I really don't feel comfortable taking it off in case it voids the warranty or something.

I'm looking at your manual, and it looks like there is a cmos reset button on the back I/O panel (page 2-16)

Ah, I did not see it there, cheers for the heads up! But I tried it and still nothing, I also tried flashing the bios and again nothing.

Could it be a faulty board seeing as half of the fans are not spinning? They are definitely all connected to the fan headers.

I would take the motherboard out of the case, set it up on your table. This will rule out any shorts. 'Breadboard it'. If it still won't post, then I'd check the cpu pins to see if any are bent.

Are you getting any beeps by the way?

Ok, I've finished breadboarding and it is still doing the same thing, as for the speaker, I can't see a designated speaker port on the mobo, nor in the manual, is it alright to plug it into a 4 pin fan header?

I also just checked the pins, none are bent out of shape.

In your manual page 1-46 shows where the system speaker plugs into.

There was no beeping at all when rebooting. I also tried using the stock intel heatsink to see if it was a pump issue on the h100i, but again, it did not post.

What are your full system specs? CPU, memory model#, PSU make/model?

It might be RMA time, but it would be nice to know which to send back.

I sent of the mother board for a replacement, is it a big possibility that anything else could have been defective?
