Good day,

I am planning to build a PC somewhere around december and have so far had these following components in mind:

CPU: I7 - 7700k
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z270X-Gaming 5
GPU: MSI RX 580 Armor OC
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2
COOLER: Corsair H110i
RAM: 16GB Dominator Platinum
525 GB SSD and a 2TB HDD

I plan to game on 1080p 144Hz Free sync only because G-Sync monitors are too damn expensive here in the Philippines. I plan to OC the 7700k a little bit that is why i opted for a liquid cooler. I dont plan on streaming or video editing that much. But it would be nice to do so if I could when i choose to.

My question is, would the PSU be enough for all of my chosen components? If there is something you could change in the build. what and why? Lastly, is there any reason why i should just go for a Ryzen 1700 and not the 7700k?

650w is plenty and the chosen power supply is great quality. This build can be run fine on a quality 450w.

If this is for gaming in late AAA games, and you plan on lowering the graphical settings to get as close as you can to 144FPS, the 7700k is a fine choice. If you are playing on Ultra quality, the RX 580 would probably struggle in AAA games to reach past 100FPS, in which case the Ryzen 1700 would be fine.

I mainly play Civ 6, Anno 2070 and League of Legends. Though i do play AAA games occasionally just not as much. I'm not above lowering some settings in some games. I think it's ridiculous that you always have to have your games at "Ultra". It doesn't really bother me that much if I lower settings. I think 580 would suit me for a while, until after a year or two, i can upgrade to a better card.

I chose a 650W power supply because i'm a little on the fence of picking a lower power supply. I would be overclocking my CPU so i'm thinking it will increase the power draw and would require a higher wattage PSU. Though I have note overclocked before so I was hoping you guys could provide some insight on this.

My main concern is my processor. Upgrading from a 7700k would be difficult as I've read somewhere that coffee lake wont be using 1151. AMD on the other had plans to use AM4 for a while, not really sure about this though. So the thing is, would it be better to go with a Ryzen 1700 then considering the upgrade path?

I think you should really consider the R5 1600 and dropping the cooler. It has the same performance as the 1700 for gaming and it'll probably save you a lot of money, maybe enough to get RX Vega (release August 14)?

^ Failed to noticed that somehow. Yup, it's always pointless to plan a build months ahead, lots can happen in that time. Well, what we know is Coffee Lake is likely releasing around December, so the i7 7700k is out of the picture. R5 is still likely to be a contender though as the platform will last many years.

I was just so excited getting together my first ever build. Life isn't always as great as it was growing up the Philippines. Ever since I was i child, i have only experienced gaming in computer shops. For 19 years, it's all i've been doing until I got a job and was able to save up enough money for it. I know no one is here for a sob story, i'm just that type of person to make sure of everything before spending my hard earned cash.

I think Ryzen line up would be a great choice, however, since coffee lake wont show up until December; i suppose anything goes. But do you think my GPU choice is solid? I don't think I would need an RX Vega since i would only be gaming at 1080p 144Hz. But I could be wrong.

I dont mind dialing the setting down a bit to be able to play. But waiting for Vega might be the best thing to do i guess.
