Hi.

I was hoping I could get some advice on the most practical way for running older games (Empire Earth, Throne of Darkness, etc.), whether it means I build a machine that runs something like Windows 7, or if there are solutions I could run on my modern machine, though most of the time they tend to be game-specific.

I'm currently running Windows 10, Intel i5 4690K and an ASUS GTX 1080 Founder's Edition, and a lot of people were having trouble running older games on newer systems because of things like DirectX among other things. Vintage and retro stuff, like DOSBox and emulators, seem to work fine on my machine, but it's the other titles like Empire Earth I mentioned before that don't run properly.

Is it better to build a machine from scratch that runs an older operating system like Windows 7? Or are there better solutions out there? I've been wanting to start collecting older computer games and wanted to be able to play them as best I could. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

well you could just buy a game from gog and save the headache(i know not all games are there) or you could just dual boot...i mean have another HDD say 1-2TB for win 7 and games installed. less headache/cost than building a new pc just to play old games...
