Hi there,

I know there's a lot of which i7/i5 to choose from threads lying about, however, I was just wondering for my specifics which would be the best option for say the £450-500 for CPU and Mobo combo.

I've currently sourced some parts already so have a Corsair HX1000i PSU, an EVGA GTX 980 Ti GPU and a couple Samsung Evo 850 SSDs all ready. Unfortunately, I've not gotten round to the other components and have approx £700 or so remaining to get all the other parts.

I've narrowed to the 5820k and 6700k but can't really decide. I think if the X99 mobos weren't so pricey, I would have probably gone for the 5820k without hesitation, can someone assist me here and also a Case as well? Due to the GPU, should I get a Full Tower rather than Mid as I'm also likely to be plugging in 3 SSDs with 1 HDD (I do a lot of video rendering and gaming as well). I just don't have that much space under my desk atm.

Also, side questions, I'm unlikely to be OCing the CPU or GPU, however should I buy additional CPU/GPU coolers or is the stock ones in the case and on the card themselves ok?

Thanks
Loooooooos

Do you need the extra 2 cores from the 5820k for your video rendering? Or would a 6700k suffice for you?

I would also learn to overclock, its free performance with little risk when done properly.

No you don't need to a full tower, no you don't need a better GPU cooler, yes you should get a better CPU cooler, the nh-d15, h100i gtx and kraken x61 are all good. LGA1151/Z170 will be compatible with 7th Gen CPUs.

In theory no I don't, however as more games are becoming multi-cores I thought maybe will come to better use in a year or so.

How much performance gain can I expect to get from overclocking the 6700k? The reason I suggested also the 5820k is because the CPU+Motherboard price for both accumulates to approx same.

The median i7 6700k overclock according to hwbot is 4.6ghz, up from stock 4.0ghz clock. While the average overclock for the 5820k is 4.4ghz. If the 5820k and 6700k are around the same price, i would get the 5820k, you cant add 2 extra cores to the 6700k. The single core performance would be within 10% and you not notice any difference in games between the two.
