I'd rather take the latest socket for gaming right now,imo are the two extra cores a welcome addition and the cpu,although not the highest clocked,is very fast,

Looks good to me, the 1080 price makes me cringe a little, but I assume that's par for the course where you are. Only thing I would change would be the CPU cooler to a Cryorig, but that's really more a personal preference thing. I don't see an OS on the list, but I'll go out on a limb and assume you know you need an OS for the build.

Is about the same price range.Instead of the M.2 drive could you also use a nice 2tb drive next to the 850 EVO of course. Just compare and see what you think of it.
You should be able to run all cores of the I5 8400 at max turbo on a board like the one here,but that is a kind of overclocking so will produce exra heat. The M9i should be able to keep that in check afaik.
You will be able to make do with the TX550M psu with the build here which is abit cheaper.

Didn't mention Ryzen yet,but is also a possibility.
