Hello everyone. I appreciate any help in advance.
The laptop is a dell G5 gaming laptop with windows 10, the desktop is an alienware aurora r8, windows 10. I have other devices (phone, tablet), that also occasionally experience wifi drops, but have wifi 95%+ of the time.
I have some very weird wifi issues with my computers. My landlord has Verizion FIOS with the router/modem that comes with the package. It was recently installed last September. I just moved in and have been having weird internet connectivity issues. (at our previous residence, the laptop never had any connectivity issues). It will say Connected, no Internet.
I have tried these fixes : https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/no-internet-access-fix-windows/
(all the way from resetting the router to updating/downgrading drivers or command prompt ip resetting)
Sometimes resetting the router would improve connectivity for a few hours, but would eventually result in loss of connection.
As a work around, we got a wifi repeater with an ethernet cable. This would provide internet, but only if the laptop was also connected to wifi. Disconnecting from wifi, even while connected with ethernet, would result in no internet.
I recently bought a desktop, and continued to have the same problem. However, the first time I booted it up, it would not connect, I went and ate breakfast, and when I came back 20 minutes later it had connected. I didn't realize it was the same problem until I rebooted and lost internet.
As a weird work-around, if I do wifi tethering with a phone, then disconnect the phone, the pc will be able to connect to the wifi with internet. It will maintain this connection until rebooting or sleeping. I have tried unplugging the phone immediately, but this does not always result in the computer staying on internet . If I wait about 5 minutes, it seems to work 95%+ of the time. It seems that I need to connect to the wifi while the phone is tethered for it to work after unplugging the phone. I tried plugging the phone in and out, then connecting to wifi, and this does not produce any results.
Edit: Had a weird new thing happen. I connected the phone to tether, unplugged it after a few minutes even though it said it wasn't connected to internet. However, I still had internet while it said connected no internet, and a few minutes later switched over to saying it had internet connection (even though it had it before).
My goal would be to fix this so that the computers connect automatically to the wifi. Thanks again.
