pc crash after upgrading gpu cooler

so i got a 4k monitor and got a nzxt g10 kraken and h105 cooler so that i could overclock my gigabyte r9 290.
and after installing everything during a benchmark my system just crashed. but not a blue screen crash just black screen with monitor displaying no video imput and the speakers buzzing loudly. even when i pressed the reset button on the pc it just hanged in startup and did not do anything untill i switched power off completely and turned it back on.
this happens every time under heavy graphic load where im running under 60fps.
i am sure i did not damage anything on the card when installing the g10 and the temps are down from 50-60 idle to 30-40.
i dont want to spend hours taking off the g10 and putting back on the stock cooler unless i know that somehow thats causing the problem?

btw pc specs:
gigabyte z97x gaming g1 wifi blk
gigabyte r9 290 windforce
bitfenix fury 750w gold
intel i5 4690s
corsair 16g 1600mhz ddr3
2 corsair h105 aio coolers

so i updated all my drivers, changed the display port cable with another one and tried again.
no difference.

tried to upload photos but couldnt get it to work. stock core and memory clocks and the gpu is running under 40C.

Bite the bullet and put the stock cooler back on. You could also take decent photographs of the GPU board (both sides), upload them to imgur and give us the links. There is always the chance that either you missed something (thermal pads on VRM for example) or perhaps you knocked something loose. Either way your first step should be to return everything to stock and start from there.

Where are the pumps and fans all plugged into? I experienced similar issues when I first used the G10, my motherboard didnt like all the fans and pumps running off it, i suspect causing some fluctuation in the power delivery. In the end I got some splitters and adaptors to run the AIO pumps and GPU fans straight off the PSU 12v.

both the pump and fans were running off the motherboard. but being such an expencive motherboard i'd expect that shouldnt be a problem.
i did end up taking off the liquid cooler and reinstall the stock one and all the issues went away.

that leaves me to think that the problems lies with a couple of ideas.
1: the graphics card no longer having a fan plugged into it is causing it to ramp down its performance or just spazz out. it has the on board fan controller switch on the card so that might be something..
2: the foam padding on the back plate holding the pump assembly on is causing trouble being pressed against the back of the gpu.
3: like rob said having too many fans plugged in are causing some sort of problem.

i may just leave the stock cooler on and put up with slightly lower 4k frame rates. i will live.

The fan helps cooling the memory and other components on the GPU; with water cooling they probably overheat.
