I overclocked my fx-6300 to 4ghz with a stock cooler. I ran an online cpu stress test for about 25 mins and it crashed. highest temp was 55 degrees. Eventhough the temps were quite low for 90% load, it still crashed. why did it crash when the temps were low? the crash didnt shut off the pc, it went to a screen that said oops something went wrong(something like that) then it restarted itself. i was using silverlight online cpu test and core temp to look at the temps. when i ran the same test with the stock speed(3.5ghz) for 30 mins, it was 60 degrees + bit it didnt crash. why did the stock speed generate more heat and why didnt it crash when it was hotter than the overclocked speed.

specs:
amd fx-6300
asus strix gtx 750 ti oc edition
8gb hyperx fury 1600
msi 9710-g43 motherboard
1tb hitachi hard drive
500 gb western digital hard drive
cooler master gx550 psu
windows 10

Thermostat inside your processor is made sensitive than the thermal sensor dye. So if it had risen very rapidly it would not have registered by thermal dye. But the thermostat may have disconnected your CPU. You can check if this is the case by overclocking little by little. That is you have to overclock 100MGHz or 0.1 GHz then run all the stability software like Cenebench, Prime 95 etc. If this works you can increase another 100MGHz and run all the stability test until, after increasing the system crashes. So just to be sure at the point under clock that value by 150MGHz...
This may be because you have an overheating CPU. Please reset your processor speed to stock and also consider buying a custom cooler if you want to overclock.

If you are having some issue with the power supply this can happen. For PCs 55 to 60 degrees is maximum. For laptops it can go up to 90 degrees.

I Think I have helped you

I accidentally picked your answer as best solution, how do i undo this

im using windows 10. it shows oops something went wrong or something like that. then it would restart itself. it didnt shut off completely. just now i did the same stress test with the stock speed. it was 60 degrees but it didnt crash

the temp was 55 for a solid 10 mins before crashing. how do i know if its throttling?

the temp was ok but i dont know why it crashed if it didnt overheat

So just to be sure at the point under clock that value by 150MGHz or 0.15GHz. You have to have a good power supply which can deliver more power output than this for overclocking. 600 W to 700 W should be enough.

I hope this has helped you
