Brand new PC build, I just started playing a game last night and the computer crashes (reset). No video being displayed through my GTX970. I try various things (reset CMOS, reseat card), to no avail. Inside my BIOS I see that the computer doesn't see a graphics card in the slot.

I did some searching online for this particular issue and couldn't find anything. I could really use some help here.

The downside is that I can only put the card in one of the two slots I have available because it won't fit in the 16x slot because it interferes with the case. I'm normally a Mac guy (and this is actually a dual boot Hackintosh/Windows), but this issue is not OS dependent.

Is my new video card dead?

I'm using an ASUS Maximus VIII GENE motherboard and an i7 6700k processor with the ASUS STRIX GTX970.

Figured I'd post here as a followup. After trying everything I could think of the BIOS wouldn't recognize the card. I didn't want to be left with the onboard video so I bought a GTX950 as a backup. Everything worked perfectly when I swapped cards, so I'm left believing that the 970 died.
