I have a medion pc about 4 years old , I have added parts
Cx600m psu (added)
2 4gb elixir ram cards
Msi gtx970 4GB (added)
Not sure on hdd or mobo

As the title states, My pc has become non responsive , on boot it loads the medion with the instructions to access bios with del and boot with f8, but pressing these does nothing and eventually I can hear a clicking sound coining from the hdd when pressed, after a minute the screen goes black, usually it would load into Windows but doesnt change no matter how long it's left.

How this started was that I was playing a mafia 3 and during a cut seen it got real leggy and stuttery and like so when the gsme, eventually it blue screened. Turned off turn on, still real slow , use chrome and blue screen, on/off then log in slow and blue screen, eventually to what it's at now.

I've tried cleaning it, removing ram one at a time, unplug and leave over night , check all connections.

I'm thinking it's the hdd myself, mobo is giving power to usb slot and such so I don't think it's that.
Gpu is about 3/4 months old so I don't think it's that either but then again I'm out of ideas so I made an account to toms and here we are.

I tried giving as much detail as I could any help is welcome.

Hi there Hexans,

That is really unpleasant. :(

So your computer can't really boot up right?

As you suspect that there's something wrong with the drive, you will need to troubleshoot it with some DOS tools (as your system will not boot) or you will need to take the drive out and attach it as a secondary one to a working machine.

One thing you can give a try is the Ubuntu Live CD approach. You will need a CD or a flash drive, so you can boot Ubuntu. Once you've done that, you can navigate to the HDD and see whether it is accessible. In case it is, you need to back up the data stored on it ASAP.
Thread on that: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode

Keep in mind that clicking sounds could indicate some mechanical flaw, when it comes to HDDs. So, the drive could be dead.

In case you have some spare cables, it would really not hurt to attach the drive with different cables to another SATA port.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

Is it still possible to boot ubuntu even though I can't access the bios or boot menus?

I think I have a laptop I might be able to use to access the hdd as a secondary drive, I will try that later, I really just wanna confirm if it is the hdd or not before I buy a replacement.

Also wasn't expecting such a quick response so thank you.

Good news , it figuered out its not the hdd, as D_Know_DW suggested I took out the hdd and out of curiosity I turn on my pc and had same problem, also the clicking sound was still present when I pressed any of the keys.

Turns out it was the graphic card, so I took that out put in the old one, reattached hdd and on/off I got image and logged into Windows and everything.
So I guess it was responding but not displaying image, though it did make the usual starting beeps and sounds it always has when I got it. I'll run a few tests and see if there is any saving it but if not then it's dead.

Luckily I bought it in March so it's still in warrenty.

It's great you've sorted this out.
As it is making some unusual sounds, then the GPU is most probably faulty. Just contact the place you got it from.

It's good that it wasn't the drive. You should always have a good back up of your important data.

Cheers,
