PC Crashes (blue screen) while playing games

First off, I am not entirely sure of the problem, and am putting this in Power Supplies because it's the best guess I've got right now.

As of two days ago, I've started having blue screen crashes when playing games on my computer. I've had the computer for around a year and am having these problems on games which previously played fine.

The first time I had this problem, a Windows 8 blue screen came up with the error code 'whea_uncorrectable_error'. Every time since (twice), the blue screen has not rendered properly and I have been forced to hold down the power button in order to turn off my computer.

The first time, I also got a message saying something about 'ASUS Anti-Surge', which I gather is to do with a surge from the power supply (hence this is in the power supplies section) but again that message did not come up the other two times.

The only possible trigger is that I recently installed 'Settlers: Rise of an Empire' and this game was the first to crash (it crashed the first time I played it) and since then other games which previously ran fine (namely Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3) have both crashed.

I confirmed this is not a problem with overheating by booting up and going into BIOS directly after the shutdown, which confirmed that the temperature was a normal value.

System specs:

  • Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
    Intel Core i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
    16GB DDR3 RAM

If you need further system specs I can look up the details, just don't have them on hand right now.

Solution
A CPU will go from 100c to 20c in 10 seconds. 25c is basically like starting it from scratch. Means nothing.

Also, run memtest86 for 5 passes to ensure the RAM is not faulty. This is often a cause of bluescreens

The numbers from the BIOS I obtained literally 25 seconds after the shutdown, so it couldn't have cooled down much since the crash (I assume anyway - correct me if I'm wrong?)

The problem is that it is difficult for me to check the numbers when I'm playing a game because it generally crashes after the game has been open around 10 minutes, so not enough time for it to heat up and then for me to check it.

Alright, ran memtest86 (only 4 passes though, I didn't see an option to configure it - is this a problem?) and got 0 errors. CPU temperature peaked at 69C when memtest86 was running (seems a little high to me - can you confirm?)

Apologies for the delay, I wasn't anticipating memtest taking 7 hours to run so ended up running it overnight.

Another update - I checked the temperatures and it does seem to be quite high. Used SpeedFan - temperatures were as follows, and this is without intensive usage:

System - 110C
GPU - 34C
CPU - 54C
Cores 0-3 ranged from 60C to 70C

Obviously that System temp is ridiculous, from a quick bit of googling it seems to be a false reading as others have had a similar thing (some have noted that the system temp is actually possibly the PSU temperature).

Ran New Vegas in windowed mode for half an hour with no problems (temperatures of CPU and GPU only increased a couple of degrees). Will attempt to run in fullscreen soon and check temperatures.

EDIT: Ran New Vegas in fullscreen with similar results and no crash after quite a long period of time. Will report back if it happens again.
