So I have this problem where my screen will go black and about 3 seconds later I hear whatever sound that was playing start to repeat very rapidly, it happens randomly in high and low demanding games, I have upgraded my system with an i5 6600k, msi krait gaming mobo, 16g of hyperx ddr4 ram, and I kept my R9 380 and cx600m power supply from my old PC, sadly the problem persists so I have narrowed it down to the gpu or power supply, plz help

Solution

I'm not sure if it's the case for you but it happened to me once , that noise is out of over-heating or something like that (again im not sure if its like this for you) anyways there is a way to decerease processor speed...

Well it's pretty tricky to describe it because it's different every time, but I'll try: imagine someone getting shaken up and just letting out a random sound continuously, now speed that up till it almost blends into one flat sound but not quite one flat sound. I know that might only make sense to me but it's the only scenario I could think of

I'm not sure if it's the case for you but it happened to me once , that noise is out of over-heating or something like that (again im not sure if its like this for you) anyways there is a way to decerease processor speed which prevents the computer from over-heating , which kinda fixed my problem , Go to Control Panel , change the category to Large icons and search for Power Options. A power plan is selected there , next to it click on Change Plan Settings , and then Advanced power settings. Search for processor power management and lower the Minimum and Maximum processor state , you dont need to lower it a lot , just about 15-30% , if that doesnt work then im sorry i didnt help.

Thank you for the quick response, I will definitely try this soon, however I'm not so sure this is the problem because my cpu temperatures are often quite low(around 35-45C) also if it was the cpu it may have fixed by upgrading from an AMD fx-6200 to an Intel i5 6600k. Since this problem is so random and sometimes only happens once a month it may be a while until I can confirm if your solution has worked or not. Once again thx for your help and I'll hope it works

Games use RAM , this is not accurate or anything but maybe a faulty RAM is causing this because a computer won't boot without RAM unless you wanna load the bios.

I hate to shut down answers because I'm the one asking meaning I don't know myself, but if it were to be a faulty RAM it most likely would have fixed the problem when I upgraded my RAM, like I said before( still not 200% sure but most likely) I have narrowed it down to either my GPU or my power supply as those were the only components that I didn't upgrade

if it was the power supply it would've shut down immediately , so its down to your GPU , maybe something's wrong with it. (I know I'm not much of a help but i think maybe that has something wrong with it) and also one more thing , how about formatting your pc , it clears everything making the computer faster , and you can always save the things you want on a USB stick or a disk.

Good point, my PC does in fact stay on and I have to hold down the power button and manually restart it whenever this happens, I have always thought it was the gpu a little bit more because I used to have a different GPU(can't remember which) and I never had this problem with it, the problem started when I upgraded to the R9 380. And about the formatting, I would rather not wipe my system because I'm not trying to make it run faster as I just got an ssd to load Windows( and it's not the ssd that's causing the problem because it occurred before I got the ssd) so it loads pretty dang fast

So the only thing left (from what i know) is a malfunctioning GPU.

Thx for the help, I kinda already new this but I was really only about 50% sure and just wanted some more opinions just to make sure I don't jump to any conclusions. Now that we have narrowed it down to the GPU, is there any way I can send it back and get a new one due to this happening from the day I got it or do I have to buy an whole new card

Hmmm, not too sure if I have a warranty because I wasn't actually the one who bought it, it was a gift to me, All I can tell you is that the manufacturer is xfx and it was probably ordered on either Amazon or newegg(probably Amazon)

If it was bought on Ebay from a certain person , you can ask the one who gifted you , who he bought it from and then together you can report him for selling a faulty GPU , if it was bought from Newegg you can contact them and explain the errors to get a replacement. (I also think your friend needs to take part of that since hes the one who bought it and he will need to send the complaints

Definitely not eBay as it was brand new and in the box, I'll do that if it was from newegg, what about Amazon do you know(if you don't it's fine at this point I can figure it out I'm just asking because of the convenience) I do know we have prime if that would change anything

I'm sorry i said eBay (totally got confused and forgot you said amazon) i think you can complain there as well , because i dont know a website that allows scamming so im pretty sure they do things as well.

Alright I'll look at refunding or replacing it tomorrow and thank you so much for the quick response as I just needed another opinion on this situation besides my own
