As the title states, my PC shuts down completely any time I put the CPU under load. I have had this pc now for a few months (Dec '22), never coming across this issue. However, as of last week (in the week of 13 March 2023), whenever I run a game or launch CineBench, I hear a click from the psu and the pc turns off. Naturally, I find a kernel power 41 code in the error center. There were little changes in this week: I have not carried the pc around, nor did I install new software. As far as I can tell, there was only a windows 11 update KB5023706 and an intel update 31.0.101.3959.

Do you have suggestions for the root of my issue? Things I tried, but which haven't resulted in anything:
  • Update BIOS (currently on version F4)
  • Update all drivers
  • Reseat CPU and cooler. Reapplied thermal paste. (after this step, i could game for +- 30 min then it shut down again)
  • I've checked the all power cords to and from the psu for faulty connections (none found)
  • Cinebench run: temperatures spike to 80-90 C in a few seconds, after which the problem occurs.
  • I have put my GPU under heavy loads in benchmarking software for 15 mins, which does not result in a shutdown.

I'm using the Arctic Liquid freezer II 360. Unsure whether pump works, but the CPU block isnt vibrating as I would expect. Fans are turning though.

What do you make of when I reseated CPU+cooler? I could game for another 30 to 45 mins no problem. Temps were steady at around 60 C. ?
