specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K
GPU: Nvidia RTX 4080
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 5600 C36 2x16GB
MBD: Gigabyte GA-Z690 AORUS ELITE AX
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 GT Fully Modular Power Supply

this has been going on for awhile now, my pc will crash on certain games like, cs2, ark ascended, the last of us, cyberpunk (games which worked at one point) and many others but then not on other graphically demanding games like reddead2 or witcher 3 with settings maxed. At first i thought it was my gpu (3070 at the time) was dying because i was getting out of video memory pop ups as well as a weird display issue where after being asleep and woken up my monitor would seem glitchy and frozen but it would go away after 5 or so minutes, so i upgraded to the 4080 and problems persist.

ive tried:
using ddu and reinstalling my gpu driver
reinstalling windows
memtest86
intel processor diag tool

honestly so lost on trying to pinpoint the issue. I am thinking about going to buy 4 new sticks of ram and seeing if that fixes anything.

Check your motherboard bios for power limits.
Some motherboards have unlimited "4096" watts or similar high number.
This can cause your problem.
Set it to a reasonable 253 is intel spec but it can pull 300 if cooled well.

what are your temperatures while gaming

use something like hw monitor

https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

is your cpu recognising all the ram
so right now i got ark SA running and in hw monitor package temp value is 66-72 while max is 89. It does seem my ram is being recognized. I think Unolocogringo was right on the money since I turned the turbo power settings from auto to Inter por ive launched cs2 3 times and got into a game ark SA launched without the out of video memory pop ups and i was able to get into cyberpunk and do half a mission before it crashed but thats a start!! i havent messed with any other settings in the bios yet except that one though, so maybe setting the pl1 and pl2 options from that article will help more.

`When you get a chance do a check disk to fix any errors the crashes might of caused.
And most game launchers have a game check utility to check the game files for errors.

sorry for sounding like a total noob, how do i do the check disk? is it something i do in command prompt?

edit: googled it, no errors found. some games are still crashing (the last of us, the finals, assassins creed origins) but i can tell im on the way to figuring this out. assassins creed origins and odyssey are extra weird bc i can play them if i steam link to my phone for example when im at work i steam it to my phone and it doesnt crash, but when i launch it on my pc it crashes 10 min or so in.

Completely a shot in the dark but I've had other users have issues of instability and it was due to CPU not making proper contact with pins. Lga 1700 is cursed with bending issues of cpu I find.

This is just a suggestion. Other things you can try is turning off xmp on ram in bios and see if it persists.

xmp is off atm, i just went and got 4 rgb 16gb of corsair vengeance ram 6000mhz going to install it tomorrow maybe and see if it makes a difference.

I have noticed my system crashes while playing ghames like avatar, gtfo and days gone. I am starting to think it Win 11!!!

I play the same games on my windows 10 gaming rig and have no crashes. HMMMMM.

What do yall think?

Best.

Thanks for the offer, but I do not do this for monetary reasons.
We here in the forums give our knowledge and advice in trouble shooting for free.
Kind of a pass it along thing.
Glad I got you started in the right direction.

I have not switched to 11 yet. So I can not help you there.

has anything in your system changed besides the operating system? ex. new cpu, ram, gpu or anything since you upgraded from windows 10?

Started crashing again today 🙁 worked good for like 3 days. Turbo setting is still set to intel por and all of the sudden it's crashing. Wondering if msi mobo have this issue. Thinking maybe there are other settings besides the turbo power settings I may need to change, just not very familiar with bios.

Try clear CMOS before rolling back. If you didn't do that, then the old bios may not be fully wiped.
Yeah I never removed the cmos battery before or after updating bios. Is that something I should normally do? Also I wonder if resetting the cmos battery would fix any issue im having now. I did load default profile in bios but it didn't seem to help too much.

Best practice for updating bios.
Enter bios.
F5 or load bios defaults.
F10 or save and exit.
Enter bios on reboot and flash to the newer bios.
Reboot and enter bios again.
Check version number and F5 or load bios defaults.
F10 or save and exit.
Now re enter bios again and set memory speed, power management, boot behavior all over again.
The settings you had before are all gone.
So you have to turn off all of the automatic overclocking settings and reset memory speeds.

You haven't included the clear CMOS part. This is essential.

So you have to turn off all of the automatic overclocking settings and reset memory speeds.

When clearing the CMOS, this will be automatically done.

This is how: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...1401_e.pdf?v=bc3ca063f8aa3077454576d4f51d52a7

Page 4 to see the clrtc pins.

Page 32 for how to: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...1401_e.pdf?v=bc3ca063f8aa3077454576d4f51d52a7

We are just making sure to rule out the bios as the issue.
