Hi Guys,

I need some help, my PC is crashing every hour almost exactly every 60 minutes. I have tried to run it on a new SSD with a fresh windows installation and it seems the problem persists.

Specs:
I7-3770K
Asus Maximus V Gene
Nvidia GTX 1070
Cosair Dominator Platinum DDR3

It has run fine until recently. Usually all apps crash and the screen turns black with mouse still working or blue screen errors ranging from Critical_process_died or kernel related issues.
I have resat the CPU, RAM and GPU.

Any help would be appreciated.

PSU: Make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)? History of heavy use for gaming, video work, or bit-mining?

Turn off/disable all power savers to determine if that makes a difference.

= = = =

Look in Reliability History and Event Viewer.

Either one or both may be capturing some related error code, warning, or even an informational event. Especially with a 60 minute pattern involved.

Start with Reliability History. Much more user friendly and the timeline format can be very revealing and helpful.

Look for something trying to launch, phone home, maybe trying to update.

What might have changed since all was well?
Likely some sort of maintenance, a new app, malware or even virus.

An on the hour problem suggests that some app is starting up on a schedule and is impacting you.
Some app might be checking for updates.
There may be some ASUS manager doing this.
Look at task manager to see if you can catch and identify that app.

Firstly, Thank you for the reply.

PSU: SteamPunk Gold 850W Fully modular, Previous PSU was not starting up but was powering the motherboard leds so the current PSU is actually 2-3 weeks old due to RMA.

History of use: mainly used for browsing (Chrome/Youtube), Gaming (GTA Online, BF4, Armored warfare), Used to mine ETH years ago on a 780TI using the same PC for a very short period, upgraded the 780TI to 1070 and haven't mined on it since.

This PC has a high amount of uptime though, but not necessarily heavy usage.

Screensaver was already off, crashing occurs while use or while idle

================

Unfortunately Reliability history is not helpful, it shows; not much info I can see from my untrained eye, maybe I can share the history file here if you can guide me how to upload and link the .txt file?
Windows stopped working
Windows was not properly shut down
Windows shut down unexpectedly

As for windows update, it automatically installs drivers even after disabling it in the settings, maybe there is something causing conflicts there, not sure how to stop it completely.

Are you running the latest drivers for your gpu? Use DDu unistaller to remove the old drivers and then reinstall the newest one for your gpu. Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.5.4 (guru3d.com) Have you run memory check? You can try using just one stick of ram at a time to see if one stick is causing a problem.

Yes latest drivers running, I actually did reintall the drivers yesterday using DDU but it did not help with the crashing.
Memory check returned with no errors found on all ram sticks which is confusing as corsair is willing to RMA the RAM if I have a screenshot of the failing RAM. They seem fine so far.

Nothing changed on the hardware side apart from recent RMA on the PSU (Though this issue persisted before RMA event occurred). I'm running Trendmicro which detects no virus and recently run Malwarebites.

Yes I do think it is something related to an app starting up and disrupting the system, I am unable to identify any app which could be causing the issue, no ASUS manager is installed, though it could be Intel chipset drivers which are automatically installed by windows update. any idea how i can identify or/and stop updates from installing automatically?

When you changed PSUs did you reuse the cables from the original PSU?

Do double check that all cards, connectors, RAM, jumpers, and case connections are fully and firmly in place.

Check Task Scheduler. Look for anything being triggered at a 60 minute mark.

Also: manually download drivers directly from the applicable manufacturer's websites. Reinstall and reconfigure. No third party installers.

Another thing you can do is to download Process Explorer via Microsoft. Free.

Once installed open the tool and watch. You may or may not catch something that happens just before or at the 60 minute mark.
