PC Crashing (power supply?)

Hi there,

I built my PC a good 6 months ago, and have had very few issues with it.

I play new games, and also use it for work / writing etc.

Recently it has been crashing at random times, but also when the system is under a lot of stress (loading games etc). Due to this, I updated all my drivers, BIOS, gave the case a clean - but still the problem persists.

My system:

AMD FX 8320 CPU
8GB DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
750Watt Corsair PSU
120gb SDD

The Crash:

The system will just go dead, as if I had flicked the mains power switch. It will not restart, show an error message or blue screen - just dead.

I will press the power button to turn on, but nothing with happen, sometimes the power light will flicker but nothing. I wait a few moments, unplug mains - replug mains, and then it starts up.

The only logical explanation I can think of is PSU? But...surely 750W is more than enough for this system?

Please, any help for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Luke

Yes it looks like a bad or dead PSU issue to me why dont you try checking it with a different PSU if you can.

yes 750 watt is more than enough for a single card including overclocking. If its a corsair cx PSU then i must say its a poor quality PSU. BTW what is your GPU ? r9 270/270x/280/280x/285/290/290x?

Check if the PSU fan is actually operating. I suspect it is not. That or your processor/gpu is getting very hot and the CPU wont boot until they cool down. But ya, in general Wattage is not the deciding factor when it comes to power. Stable amps and proper rated voltage are paramount. This is why the bronze/silver/gold plus gold certified emblems exist, to show its been tested and shown a certain level of stability.

If you go for a replacement look for a 80plus gold or silverplus gold cert.

Bronze ,gold platinum are not for stability its for power efficiency.

Try placing the case on something solid, off of the carpet (if its sitting on carpet) There is no way to get good airflow for a bottom mounted PSU sitting on carpet, so I put my case on some boxes that let full airflow enter the PSU from the bottom.

The PSU is way overkill for your build any way try borrowing a PSU from a friend or so just for testing if its the PSU then RMA it if its not the PSU then the next thing could be the board.

Ok, so try a new PSU?

I have just moved to a new city (no friends! boo hoo) If I were to buy a new PSU what would you recommend? (as you say mine is currently overkill! haha).
