About a month ago i built my first pc, all parts brand new apart from a graphics card which i got second hand. Basically, the issue is that once or twice a day my pc crashes, mouse/keyboard become unresponsive, the sound becomes distorted, usually the video on screen (youtube/games/netflix) continues to play however sometimes it begins to play in slow motion. Any ideas regarding what may be causing this and how the issue may be fixed? Temps are all reasonable with both CPU and GPU maxing at around 55 degrees, I have the task manager open a lot and haven't noticed any correlation between crashes and load etc. It seems to be random.

Things i have tried are -

*Wiping graphics drivers and reinstall (using DDU)
*Reseating RAM/GPU
*Memtest86
*Hard drive test
*Clean Installation of Windows (8 and 10)
*CCleaner to clean up registries

Build Specs are: (all stock speeds)
CPU -AMD FX 8350
CPU Cooler - Hyper 212 Evo
Graphics - MSI GTX 750Ti
Ram - 2x Kingston Fury 4gb ddr3
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
PSU - Corsair CX 500W

Thanks

I had the same issue as you. Something is wrong with your motherboard or Power Supply. Try checking your Motherboard for any damages. One last question, is your PC keeping track of boot order/time or date?

How would I check if it is keeping track or not?

How can i check voltage of the Power Supply? Would Motherboard Voltages be enough?

I Ran HDDScan 3.3 which displayed one warning for 'UltraDMA CRC Errors' ?? could this cause these types of crashes?

Yes, it could.

I will try using the hard drive from my laptop for a couple of days. I would much rather be buying another HDD than a new motherboard or Power Supply.

UPDATE - Still crashing with a different HDD 🙁 what would you advise doing now? Contacting the Motherboard or PSU supplier?

I attempted to reconnect the hard drive and run the test again but the warning still appeared.
I'm currently trying it with my 2.5" hard drive from my laptop; if the crashes still happen can i be pretty sure its a faulty motherboard?

Unfortunately not :/

Would the voltages shown on HW Monitor help identify if it is the PSU or not? Or any other way of checking if it is the motherboard or PSU other than swapping parts out?

Or would a PSU tester from ebay be enough to check if the PSU is healthy? Something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Power-Supply-Tester-20-24-Pin-Sata-LCD-PSU-HD-ATX-BTX-Voltage-Test-Source-/391045485627?hash=item5b0c20943b

I will buy that from ebay then,

It doesn't shutdown, it just freezes with no warning and the only way to fix is to restart.

Have purchased the PSU tester, will post results once it has arrived and i have tested it.

As an update I also updated the bios to version FB rather than FA as advised by Gigabyte eSupport but the crash still occurred.

PSU Test results are:

+12v1 = 12.1
+12v2 = 12.2
-12v = 11.6
+5v = 4.9
+3.3v = 3.3
5vsb = 4.9
PG = 270ms

Also molex displayed a green light for both 5v and 12v and Sata Power displayed a green light on all 5v, 3.3v and 12v.

To my knowledge these are all within the standard right?
I have noticed the crashes happen most when playing games or streaming video from twitch/youtube... could it be the graphics card after all?

Thanks

Im now thinking it could be faulty audio on the Motherboard maybe? My only reason for this being that the past two times my pc has crashed the Realtek HD Audio Manager popped up during the crash.. this may also be the reason that the majority of my crashes were during youtube or gaming since sound was being played? Thoughts?
