PC novice here.
I recently tried to upgrade my storage and ended up destroying a component of my computer. I have a micro atx which means that space is tight and I might have pushed the ram and the cpu cooler. After the upgrade my PC wouldnt post until i adjusted every connection and booted with the pc on its side. The way the PC crashes is that it just freezes and stops posting until i lay the pc on the side and adjust ram for a few minutes. I have noticed that if i shake my pc or push the ram at all while the pc is running it will crash.

Furthermore i have tried moving my ram around (i only have to ram slots) and the issue seems to occur no matter the ram what my ram configuration is - even with only 1 ram stick. I normally have 2x16 gigs.

Do you guys have any idea where the issue is so I can replace or repair it. I personally think that I destroyed my motherboard but I hope to get a second opinion before getting a new one.
Thank you for reading. :)

A cracked solder joint in the area of the RAM is a good possibility. When you push on a DIMM, it opens up the crack and the connection is broken and it crashes. It sounds like you tried this with just one DIMM at a time and it still does it so that's why i think you've eliminated the RAM.

If you're super...

This is a classic example of an intermittent problem...most likely a connection making and breaking. It could be any of a hundreds of important connections, quite possibly a cracked solder joint on a board. Or a broken pin in the CPU: you could remove that and examine both CPU and socket carefully.

You've possibly eliminated RAM, so swap other components if you can. PSU and GPU would be good to swap. If CPU is undamaged that would leave the motherboard as most likely culprit.

@drea.drechsler thank you for taking the time to reply!

Correct me if I'm wrong I think it's unlikely that I've bent a pin since nothing happens when adjusting the CPU cooler while the pc is running. On the other hand any movement of the ram will crash it immediately. I thought that it was a sealed deal dead motherboard ram slot but the fact that it crashes with ram in either of the two slots has really confused me.

If you're super patient, have a good magnifier and a bright light check each and every solder joint and you might find one that has a tiny crack in it. Touch it with a heated soldering iron should fix it up.

Alternatively, and if you're exasperated and prepared to buy a new one if it fails: touch each and every solder joint with an iron, being careful not to take off any tiny chip components. It might just do it. The only ones you can't get to are the BGA or CGA packages; if it's one of those it is almost certainly BER...beyond economic repair.

You could be right about the CPU, it's just a possibility that is is also in the area of the RAM and can be explored easily enough.
