PC crashing when downloading games

I have a AMD athlon IIx2 235e and 8gb ram and a 1050 my pc crashes when i start downloading games on steam idid antivirus scans clean i cheacked ever part in my pc and i never put thermal past on my cpu. Will that be causing it to crash?
and when i open anything the cpu usage reaches 90-99% and i can play games without crashing i can do normal day tasks and run fine but only when i download games or anything off the internet it crashed plz help

Sounds like you already suspect an overheating CPU, which would happen if you don't apply thermal paste. At the very least you'd need new thermal paste to install your CPU cooler regardless of the crashing issue. Hopefully the CPU isn't damaged (though most should automatically shut down to protect itself).

Opening software should push CPU usage up. Question is whether it hangs at that high usage level or drops back down afterwards. If it doesn't drop for internet browsing I'm more inclined to think something is wrong. For gaming, depending what game it is, it isn't that surprising.

As for crashing just when downloading? No idea. If true, then it's likely to be something else causing the issue as you claim playing games doesn't cause...

You'd need to see if there are crash dumps and post those (ideally to the Windows boards) for those who know how to read them. I am assuming you're using Windows. Personally I would check for new LAN drivers.
