My Pc starts up but the display isn't working. The display was working then just shut off. It shut off as I was writing a message and I was still able to complete the message and send it, so it appears the pc is fully working.

It happened the other day too but I change the ram to a different slot and it started working again. Now it's happened again and no matter how I sort the ram, nothing is working.

I tried clearing the CMOS,
Using on board graphics,
removing drives.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I tested the display and cable with my laptop and both are orking fine so it's definitely the PC. I have just taken the pc apart and am rebuilding it now so will update after that. Could faulty RAM cause an issue like this? I didn't think RAM would affect the display much and surely I wouldn't have been ale to send messages without the display if the RAM was broken?

i can see ram causing the computer not to start.. that's a common thing. i wouldn't think it would be the cause of a display going dark because i would expect windows to blue screen in a case of ram failure or reboot/power off.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. And if the ram wasn't working at all I would expect to get the beep code on startup too, but I don't unless I remove the ram.

It's just weird how when I swapped the RAM into different slots it worked for a couple days

I just found a forum elsewhere that said if you press the numlock key while the PC is working and it lights, i means the mobo is likely fine. Mine lights but I dunno if that is a true test!

I removed the GPU and have been testing with onboard most of the time. Tell you what just worked though, your first answer about the plugs. The PC was running fine with the power cable to the PC. And the monitor appeared to be as it was on standby and worked with my laptop. I just swapped around the plugs so the PC one is in the Monitor and the monitor one is in the PC, and it appears to be working. So I'll buy a new cable, cause I don't trust the monitor one in my PC for long.

If it happens again though, I'll have to start trying to figure it out again.

I hadn't considered the plugs so thanks!

it says your usb ports are working at least ! everything seems to be getting enough power. i had an issue where i had no display and it turned out to be a faulty usb header on the motherboard.

fingers crossed for you :)
