Hey guys so i recently upgraded my cpu from a i5 6600k to a i7 8086k when i was going ro replace my old cpu with the new one everything went just normal like it should be. Later when i was Done replacing the cpu i tryed booting it but when i pressed the power on buttun the only thing that would happen is all the fans started running for 0,5 seconds and a red light on the motherboard indicating CPU would beep red then it turned off. Later i tried with my old cpu again and it instantly worked perfectly again.
I then sent back the new cpu to the website i bought it from and they just sent a new one back when i tried with the new new one i got the exact same problem like before.

I have tried to troubble shoot this for way to many hours now and figured i should go online and see If any of you guys have any idea of why it may not be working

Solution

Yes, but thats deceiving, think of i3 i5 and i7 categories for each generation, a you can identify generations by the starting number.

4660, 4770k, 4790k = 4th gen
5700k etc etc = 5th gen
...

8700,8086k = 8th gen
9700, 9900k = 9th gen..

etc etc, you get the idea, so it doesnt matter if its i3,5,7

and yes im sure. it is not.

-_- my man, that motherboard doesn't support your cpu lol, the 8086k is a 8th gen cpu, you need Z370 or Z390 motherboard.... there was nothing wrong with the cpu you returned either....
