So this problem started a couple of weeks ago, my PC only boots SOMETIMES, when i turn it on, all fans spin, everything running but no display whatsoever, monitor light stays orange. I say sometimes because out of 15-20 tries sometimes it does boot and it remains on for as long as i want it to with no problems, but if i do have to restart or turn it off, the problem comes back.

A few things to note: i tested monitor, psu, gpu, ram and ssd/hdd in different pc, these work fine.
Also, motherboard and cpu are about 7 years old if that makes any difference.

Is it normal for a cpu or mobo to fail to boot like this but when it does boot it works perfectly?
Am i looking at a dead cpu or mobo? If so, how to identify which one?

Specs:
AMD FX 6300 3.5 GHZ
MSI 970A-G43
CM Hyper 212 EVO
2x 4 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz
GTX 750 ti
SSD Samsung EVO 950 250GB
EVGA 500B

So your PC is booting, but your display is not responding? The display port may not be in the best shape anymore. My guess: maybe you should look at a new MOBO.

Not exactly, i'll describe it again: i push the power on button, everything lights up but no display on monitor, I need to do this several times and hope to get lucky for it to POST, after it eventually does, it works fine until shutdown.

I don't think it has to do with the display port, because i'm using the gpu's port and i tested the gpu in a different pc.

You will not see anything on your monitor until system posts!
Does it beep at all when it fails to post?
Could be a power supply, MB or processor.
Make sure all your MB power connections are good, Remove plug looking for overheating, then re-seat.
Sounds like you have access to a power supply to test.

I think all MB connections are fine because like i said, sometimes it does posts and functions normally.
I only have 1 power supply, but i did test it in a friends pc and it works perfectly.
