PC does not play any sound

I just built my PC and everything works perfectly except sound. This isn't some basic issue like me not knowing that the PC is on mute or something, the audio troubleshooter finds no errors with my sound.

Any external speakers I connect, or headphones I plug in do not work either. i have tried installing the latest drivers from the Realtek website to no avail

I have checked that all the correct cables for audio are plugged into the motherboard, so this isn't a hardware issue.

Solution
If no speakers or headphones work when plugged into the motherboard's built-in audio port then the audio port may be defective.

Take a second look via "Playback device" found by right-clicking the speaker icon (lower right screen corner). Make sure that the motherboard's audio port is the default device.

Then drill down as far as you can to check and verify all related configuration settings and properties. Be sure to "Save, OK" etc. to retain the configuration changes.

Double check any and all audio connections inside the case. Make sure that you did not overlook some required connection. Swap out any related cables with known working cables. Borrow from another computer if possible.

While the case is open take a very close...

While the case is open take a very close look at all of the audio ports. Look for signs of damage, broken electrical traces, etc..
